As someone who really loves movies, I have to say, doing that AMC ad back in 2021 felt really important. It wasn’t about the money at all! Honestly, I just wanted to do my part to get people back to the theaters after everything that happened with COVID. Seeing those seats filled again meant the world to me, and I was happy to help in any way I could.

She explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she had called in a lot of favors, they worked for free, and then the project fell apart.

Nicole, age 58, assembled a talented team – including cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth and screenwriter Billy Ray – to create the popular opening segment that had become a viral meme.

She remembered asking Billy, “Should we go ahead with this? We really need to support movie theaters.” They decided to do it during the COVID-19 pandemic. She then asked the crew she was working with on Being the Ricardos if they’d be interested in helping out.

“I had no idea that thing was gonna work,” she noted. “We did it out of the purest of intentions.”

The success of the advertisement starring the Big Little Lies actress is clear, as it continues to impress audiences. She’s even talked about the possibility of making a follow-up video.

She hinted at a possible deal in an October 2024 interview with TopMob News, suggesting people should discuss it with Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Theaters.

Nicole Kidman, who has four children – Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret with her former husband Keith Urban, and Bella and Connor with ex-husband Tom Cruise – suggested they were already working on a new advertisement.

“We’re in the making,” she continued. “I’m using a Practical Magic term: There’s things brewing.”
