This isn’t Nicole Kidman’s first rodeo.
Following news of her separation from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage, people are revisiting a video of how she reacted when she split from Tom Cruise back in 2001. The video resurfaced among fans of the Eyes Wide Shut star.
Actually, when Nicole was a guest on The Late Show With David Letterman, she assured everyone she was doing well, famously telling David Letterman, “Well, I can wear heels now.”
When Nicole made a playfully cutting comment about her ex’s height – he’s well-known to be 5-foot-7 – the audience reacted with a mix of laughter and surprise. She then quickly changed the subject, saying, “Now we move on.”
David Letterman found it difficult to continue the discussion without acknowledging Nicole’s insightful comments.
“That’s gonna cost you,” he joked. “That’s pretty funny.”
The story surrounding Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise’s early 2000s breakup continues to generate discussion. Last year, she addressed rumors about a well-known photo of her looking ecstatic, clarifying it wasn’t taken immediately after she finalized her divorce from the Mission Impossible star-with whom she shares Bella Cruise, 32, and Connor Cruise, 30.
“That wasn’t me,” Nicole explained with a chuckle to British GQ in 2024. “That came from a movie; it wasn’t something that actually happened in my life.”
Even so, the Babygirl actress might get a chance to turn this story into reality while going through her divorce from the country singer. She officially started the divorce process on September 30th, as reported by TopMob News.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban-parents to daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14-have been “living separately” since early summer, according to a report from TopMob News last month. In her divorce paperwork, the Big Little Lies actress is asking to have primary custody of their two daughters.
In other parts of her legal documents, Nicole asked to be legally divorced from her husband, whom she married in 2006. She stated that both she and Keith should have their rights and freedoms back as if they were never married.
Besides court appearances, Nicole hasn’t spoken publicly since the split. Meanwhile, Keith recently made a small change to the lyrics of his 2016 song “The Fighter,” which he originally wrote about his previous relationship with the star of The Perfect Couple.
Instead of referring to his child as his “fighter,” as the song originally states, he recently changed the lyrics during a performance to honor his touring guitarist Maggie Baugh. He sang, “When they’re trying to get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player.”

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban quietly separated and began living separately around the start of summer, according to information obtained by TopMob News. Several significant events throughout the summer then contributed to their decision to file for divorce.
His High and Alive World Tour began in Alabama, and he spent the summer touring the U.S., Canada, and Australia. It was a busy season!
They were last seen together in public at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in Nashville, and appeared to be enjoying themselves, laughing and smiling.
To celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary in June, Kidman shared a picture of her and her husband with the message, “Happy Anniversary Baby.” Urban responded with a heart emoji, but he didn’t post anything himself.
People were surprised when the country singer suddenly stopped an interview after a question about the connection between Kidman and Zac Efron in the movie A Family Affair.
A radio host on Australia’s Mix 102.3’s Hayley & Max in the Morning asked, “Considering your wife, Nicole Kidman, is constantly appearing in so many successful movies and TV shows, what does Keith Urban think when he sees her in romantic scenes with younger actors like Zac Efron?”
Suddenly, Urban disappeared from the call.
“He’s no longer connected to Zoom,” a radio station employee explained. “It seems his team ended the call, likely because they didn’t want us to bring up that topic.”
His rep didn’t respond to TopMob’s request for comment at the time.
Sources at TopMob News have discovered that the Practical Magic actress has applied for Portuguese residency, and Urban is reportedly planning to do the same.
According to a source familiar with the matter, “Keith couldn’t travel to Portugal for this appointment because he’s currently touring in the U.S.,” TopMob reports. Applicants must be physically present to apply for the visa, and Keith plans to submit his application when his tour schedule allows.
At the time, the source said both planned to maintain a permanent residence in Nashville as well.
In an interview, the couple’s oldest daughter, Sunday Rose, described how her parents run their household, explaining that they have “two big rules” they always follow.
She explained to Nylon that she faced two main limitations: she wasn’t able to pursue any fashion-related jobs until she turned 16, and school always needed to be her top priority. Initially, she didn’t like the latter rule, but now she’s grateful for both because they help her stay focused and positive.
Nicole Kidman posted some photos on Sunday showcasing her summer moments with her teenage daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. However, her husband wasn’t featured in the Instagram post.
“Summer memories,” the actress wrote. “Now back to school.”
In August, her attorney drafted a Child Support Worksheet as part of a Parenting Plan, which indicated that Kidman and Urban would share custody of their daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.
However, the Oscar-winning actor was officially designated as the children’s main caregiver, with the girls living with their mother for 306 days each year and with their father for 59 days (Keith Urban will have the children every other weekend).
Neither will pay child support, according to the doc obtained by TopMob News.
The parents will maintain a loving, stable, and supportive relationship with their child, even after their divorce, it stated. They agree to avoid speaking negatively about each other or anyone in the other parent’s family. They will also encourage each child to continue loving both parents and feel at ease within both families.”
As a longtime follower of Urban, I was interested to learn they officially moved forward with their divorce agreement. According to documents TopMob News obtained, they had it notarized back in August. It’s a significant step, and I’ve been following the details closely. It seems everything is progressing as expected, and the notarization is a key part of finalizing things. I’m glad to see them handling this professionally.
The document explained that Kidman planned to file for divorce from him because they had disagreements that couldn’t be resolved. It also noted that neither of them would receive alimony or financial support after the divorce.
The same date, he also signed off on the Parenting Plan.
One week after Urban, the actress also had the Marital Dissolution Agreement officially notarized and signed the Parenting Plan.
On the very same day, a judge approved an order requiring both celebrities to attend a required parenting class, unless they request and are granted an exemption, according to documents obtained by TopMob News.
Even though she had already signed the necessary papers, she continued to wear her engagement ring while attending an event at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles.
The split between the couple made news, with TopMob News reporting that they had ended their relationship privately. The pair had been dating since 2005.
The Big Little Lies actress has officially filed for divorce, stating that they separated on the day the paperwork was submitted: September 30, 2025.
The couple’s Marital Dissolution Agreement and Parenting Plan were both filed with a Tennessee court on the same day for approval.
