Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, the developers of the upcoming game, along with publisher Koei Tecmo, have shared a new gameplay video from the *Ninja Gaiden 4* demo shown at Gamescom 2025. The 13-minute video highlights the game’s quick action and diverse enemies. *Ninja Gaiden 4* will be released on October 21st for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. You can watch the gameplay footage below.
The video showcases Yakumo’s combat skills with his katana and a variety of other weapons, including a drill spear, rocket-powered katana, bo staff, and scythes. It also highlights his powerful, high-damage attacks.
The level shown in the video seems a bit repetitive. Yakumo battles through what looks like a mostly grey industrial complex filled with hallways, large doors, elevators, and big rooms that require skillful jumping to traverse.
Finally, the video showcases a battle against large, heavily armored enemies. Their designs are based on traditional samurai armor, and they wield oversized versions of classic Japanese weapons. One particularly dangerous weapon is a massive naginata with a long reach, capable of quickly dealing significant damage to Yakumo.
The upcoming *Ninja Gaiden 4* will be as challenging as previous games like *Ninja Gaiden Black*, but it will also include a new Hero Mode for players who want a more accessible experience. In Hero Mode, the game character will automatically dodge and block, making it easier to progress. Director Masakazu Hirayama explained that this isn’t just about making the game easier, but about giving players a chance to learn the mechanics and improve their skills.
Hirayama explained that players can adjust the difficulty in *Ninja Gaiden* to suit their skill level. He suggests starting with the tutorial to learn the combat, then turning off auto-guard when comfortable. As players improve, they can increase the difficulty from easy to normal, and eventually to hard. Hirayama wants players to know that the game offers tools to help them learn and become skilled ninja, even if they’re worried about the challenge.
Last August, Hirayama revealed that the first time through *Ninja Gaiden 4* is expected to take players between 15 and 20 hours. But that’s not the end of the game – completing it unlocks the Master Ninja difficulty level, giving players plenty of extra content to enjoy after finishing the story for the first time.
