Though the release date for Ninja Gaiden 4, scheduled for October 21, is yet to arrive, enthusiasts can now witness an entire hour of gameplay from this forthcoming action game, thanks to YouTube channel GamersPrey. The video, devoid of any commentary, offers a raw, uninterrupted look at the gameplay of Ninja Gaiden 4, spanning its duration of 1 hour and 11 minutes. You can view it below for an immersive gaming experience without any additional narration.
Initially, our new character Yakumo embarks on a straightforward journey traversing a lengthy bridge. However, the situation swiftly takes an unexpected turn as the bridge crumbles, compelling Yakumo to devise an alternative path to his goal. To achieve this, he clings onto a rail and slides along it in a nail-biting sequence, which includes interactive gameplay. During this rail-grinding segment, players must deftly dodge various obstacles that include easy hurdles to leap over, as well as speeding trains traveling on the same track, requiring Yakumo to detach and find safety.
Following the scene, we catch a glimpse of some intense, violent, and gory combat from what seems to be Ninja Gaiden 4. The gameplay style seems heavily influenced by previous Ninja Gaiden games and other action titles, as Yakumo nimbly evades and swiftly slashes through two opponents. The video also offers a sneak peek at the optional objective system; players can complete tasks such as defeating a specific number of D.D.O. Soldiers or Burabura Lantern Daemons to earn rewards like Crimson Blood Pellets and NinjaCoins.
As the video demonstration unfolds, the sentiments expressed by director Yuji Nakao back in June seem increasingly accurate. In a previous interview, Nakao reminisced about what he referred to as the “golden age” of action games during the mid-2000s. He specifically mentioned games like Ninja Gaiden Black and Capcom’s Devil May Cry series, contrasting them with the current action game market that has been largely influenced by FromSoftware’s Souls titles.
From a personal point of view, I was part of the generation that experienced the peak of 3D slash-action games. It seems that the kind of games we used to play frequently as kids are not as common nowadays. Instead, there’s been a surge in popularity for ‘Souls’ style games.” (Nakao)
Absolutely, I’ve played and thoroughly enjoyed numerous games similar to the Souls series. Yet, I also find merit in the idea that authentic 3D hack-and-slash games have become scarce recently. It could just be my longing speaking, but it seems as though many action game enthusiasts are yearning for that immersive experience once more. Don’t you think it’s high time we all revisit that genre?
As the anticipated launch of Ninja Gaiden 4 approaches, Masakazu Hirayama, the director of team Ninja, has hinted at additional downloadable content beyond just the extra weapons featured in the game’s Deluxe Edition. Further information regarding this post-launch DLC will be disclosed at a later time.
Ninja Gaiden 4 is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
