Okay, so Ryu Hayabusa isn’t the main character in Ninja Gaiden 4 anymore, he’s more of a guest. But the cool thing is, you can unlock him to play through way more than just a few levels at the end. And it goes both ways! You can also unlock the other character and play their special chapters too. It’s pretty neat being able to switch between them.
This guide explains how to unlock and play as both Ryu Hayabusa and Yakumo in Ninja Gaiden 4, detailing their unique chapters and what you’ll encounter.
Unlock Both Ryu And Yakumo For All Chapters
You’ll unlock Ryu Hayabusa after finishing the main story in Chapter 19, though you do get to play as him in certain flashback sections throughout the game. The difficulty level you choose doesn’t affect unlocking him, and he’ll be available as a playable character once you’ve completed the story.
The update will add a ‘Chapter Select’ feature, allowing you to replay any chapter you’ve already unlocked without needing to play through the earlier ones. When you start a chapter, you’ll also be able to choose between the main character and an alternate, non-storyline character.
This means you can experience the beginning of the story with Ryu instead of Yakumo, and later play through Ryu’s past memories as Yakumo.
While other game modes let you switch to Ryu, you can’t begin a new game and play as him throughout the entire experience.
This character option is just for practice, letting you try out a different combination of weapons and skills.
Both characters share the same totals for items and NinjaCoins, but their weapons and skills level up separately.
So, I figured out everything about how to unlock playing as either Ryu Hayabusa or Yakumo in any chapter of Ninja Gaiden 4. It’s all pretty straightforward once you know what to do!
