Nintendo Clarifies Mario & Princess Peach’s Relationship Status

Princess Peach is still on the hunt to find her dream plumber frog.

As a devoted fan, I must confirm that, as stated by Nintendo, the beloved gaming character doesn’t have a romantic partner residing within the Mushroom Kingdom, including the long-speculated suitor, Mario.

In a statement released on July 25th, the video game company shared that Princess Peach and Mario have a strong friendship and are always ready to lend a helping hand to one another.

Certainly, Mario has served as both knight and protector for Princess Peach since the video game franchise began in 1985. Over four decades, he’s navigated through numerous challenges to rescue her from their longtime adversary Bowser, who often abducts her to express his affection. In the end of many adventures, she shows her gratitude towards Mario with a sweet peck on the cheek.

Although their bond is significant, there have been instances when the princess has kept Mario in a platonic relationship.

In 2017’s “Super Mario Odyssey”, our beloved plumber intervened in Bowser’s attempt to marry Princess Peach by force. Following the defeat of the fire-breathing turtle, Mario donned a white tuxedo and top hat for an apparent proposal using a flower. However, she found it unappealing and left in a hot air balloon, rejecting his advance.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve observed that the bond between Link and Zelda from “The Legend of Zelda” series has been a topic of romance speculation for years among fans. Interestingly, Patricia Summersett, who lends her voice to the character of Zelda in various video games, has acknowledged the intriguing chemistry between them.

In an interview with The Gamer in May 2023, she expressed her fondness for the intriguing dynamic between Link and Zelda throughout the years, appreciating the mystery as to whether there’s a deeper connection between them. She also shared that she finds it meaningful to admire relationships that don’t conform to traditional norms, reflecting her personal perspective on such bonds in her own life.

Meanwhile, the game’s creator Eiji Aonuma echoed a similar sentiment seven months later.

In a conversation with IGN in December 2023, the 62-year-old shared that he doesn’t believe Zelda games are defined by a strict narrative set by the development team. Instead, he prefers to let players use their imaginations when it comes to understanding the game.

Many fans were left purrrrrfectly confused after this revelation.

In an interview with Today in July 2024, Jill Cook, an executive at Sanrio, clarified that Hello Kitty is not a cat but rather a young girl from the London suburbs. She was raised with a family consisting of a mother, father, and twin sister named Mimmy, who is also her closest friend. Hello Kitty enjoys activities such as baking cookies and making new acquaintances.

It might have come as a shock to some, but Cook wasn’t the only one to express this idea. In fact, Christine R. Yano, an anthropology professor and author of the book “Pink Globalization: Hello Kitty’s Trek Across the Pacific,” had previously stated that Hello Kitty is not actually a cat.

In 2014, she clarified to the Los Angeles Times that Hello Kitty is not actually a cat. Instead, she’s a cartoon character who represents a little girl and a friend. Although she has a pet cat named Charmmy Kitty, Hello Kitty herself doesn’t walk or sit like a typical feline. She moves more like a bipedal creature.

Did you know more about Hello Kitty? Sanrio reveals that she stands at five apples high, tips the scales at three apples, and was born on November 1, which makes her a Scorpio. Her ambition is to become a skilled pianist or a talented poet in her dreams.

Gawrsh! Did you know this fact?

Bill Farmer, the long-time voice actor for Goofy, shared an insight into why it is that Goofy speaks whereas Mickey Mouse’s dog Pluto does not.

On an episode of the Popcorn Podcast with Leigh Livingstone and Tim Iffland in August 2024, it was revealed that Goofy is “not strictly a dog, but he falls under the category of canine.” This means that although Goofy isn’t exactly a dog, he shares the same classification as wolves and other canines. So, you could refer to him as “Goofus Canis” or simply “MOG,” which stands for man-dog.

However, Pluto, he added, is a “regular dog”—a blood hound as it turns out.

You’ll want to get to the (bikini) bottom of this discovery.

In one of his revelations, the creator of ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’, Stephen Hillenburg, shared that Squidward Tentacles is not a squid as one might assume, but rather an octopus instead.

In the 2005 Case Of The Sponge ‘Bob’ video that BuzzFeed recently shared, it was mentioned that the character Squidward is an octopus and lives next door to SpongeBob. The reason for choosing an octopus for this character is because they have a big, round head, which represents Squidward’s intellectual ego.

However, you might be curious about why Squidward is depicted as an octopus despite having only six legs instead of the usual eight. Well, Hillenburg had a reasonable explanation—he found it simpler for the animators to draw him with fewer tentacles.

Break out your handy dandy notebook and jot this one down.

One interesting fact that not many people are aware of is that the character Blue, from the show, was originally intended to be a cat named Mr. Orange. However, this changed as they decided on a new name, eventually settling for Mr. Blue. This insight was shared by the co-creator of the show, Angela Santomero, in a 2006 special titled “Behind the Clues: 10 Years With Blue,” which was recently brought to light by Mental Floss.

However, it was previously reported that Nickeloeon had been developing a series centered around a cat. This prompted the animation team to abandon their initial concept and modify Blue into a canine character instead.

Now this really isn’t funnie, er, funny.

Interestingly enough, the character Doug Funnie from the animated show “Doug” almost bore the name Brian instead. The reason behind this switch remains unclear.

In a conversation with HuffPost TV in 2014, the creator Jim Jinkins explained that he initially felt Brian was too elaborate as a name for Doug. To give him a more ordinary feel, he decided to call him Doug instead. The name Doug, when you hear it, sounds incredibly common, which was exactly what Jinkins aimed to convey – expressing the character’s perspective from an average point of view.

This fact is so good it’s scary.

In the interactive book “Monsters, Inc.: An Augmented Reality Book”, it’s disclosed that the character known as Boo – the young girl who finds herself in Monstropolis and becomes friends with Mike and Sulley – is actually named Mary Gibbs. Interestingly, this name might ring a bell because it’s also the real-life nickname of the actress who lent her voice to Boo. (BuzzFeed shares this trivia tidbit.)

For additional confirmation, take a look at the film – in one particular scene, Boo is seen organizing her sketches, and attentive viewers will notice that “Mary” is written at the top of one of the sheets of paper among them.

As for characters’ names, although Minnie Mouse is commonly known as Mickey Mouse’s girlfriend, it was disclosed by the BBC in 1942 that her complete moniker is Minerva.
