Nintendo surprised Switch 2 owners by releasing one of their top games from 2025 on the new console. It’s been a fantastic year for Nintendo, with the launch of the Switch 2 and several hit titles like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Now, a popular game from last year that wasn’t originally on Switch 2 has been unexpectedly upgraded to run natively on the system.
This week, Nintendo released an updated version of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for the Switch. The game first came out on Wii U in 2015 and received a remastered version for Switch last year. While it was playable on the new Switch console through backwards compatibility, it didn’t fully utilize the upgraded hardware. Now, that’s been fixed, giving players the experience they’ve been waiting for.
What’s New in This Switch 2 Release?
The Switch 2 version of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition offers the improvements you’d anticipate. Nintendo has boosted the game’s performance, making it run much smoother than on the original Switch, and the graphics have been upgraded to support 4K resolution. These enhancements make this the definitive version of Xenoblade Chronicles X.
The best thing about this update for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is its affordability. If you already own the game, you can get the improvements for just $4.99 – making it one of the more reasonably priced updates Nintendo has released for the Switch 2. For new players, the digital version of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition costs $65 on the eShop. A physical copy will also be available on Switch 2, but it won’t be released until April 16th.
