Okay, so Xbox and Nintendo are working together more and more, which is awesome! They just added a game that used to be exclusive to Xbox and PC to the Switch 2. It came out last year and was a really popular action-adventure title on Game Pass – seriously, the world they built was amazing. Now, Switch 2 owners get to experience it too, and with the Switch 2’s improvements, it’s perfect for playing on the go. I’m really excited to try it out on my Switch 2!
With improvements to the original Nintendo Switch, the new Switch 2 is making it possible to bring updated games to the console. Nintendo is adding both new titles like the latest Metroid and Pokemon games, and popular recent releases such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Hades 2. The upcoming game scheduled for March 31, 2026, continues this trend of expanding the Switch 2’s library, and it doesn’t look like Nintendo will be stopping anytime soon.
South Of Midnight Celebrates Its 1-Year Anniversary As It Arrives To The Switch 2

Released initially on April 8, 2025, South of Midnight will celebrate its one-year anniversary shortly after becoming available on the Nintendo Switch 2 in late March 2026. This beautifully crafted game uses stop-motion animation to create stunning cutscenes and a distinctive visual style inspired by the folklore of the American Deep South. Players take on the role of Hazel in a detailed and immersive adventure that uniquely explores cultural history within a dark, modern fantasy setting, all brought to life with exceptional art design.
In this game, you play as Hazel, who must learn magic to save her town from a looming disaster. As she explores a beautifully detailed world inspired by Southern history and folklore, Hazel discovers she can repair broken connections and calm restless spirits using her powers. The story is deeply moving, and unraveling the mysteries of Hazel’s family adds another layer to this 10-15 hour adventure.
South of Midnight feels like a traditional platformer or action-adventure game, similar to titles like Jak & Daxter or Horizon: Zero Dawn. The game encourages revisiting levels to uncover hidden secrets and collectibles, which you’ll unlock by gaining new abilities. While the combat is straightforward, it offers surprising depth as you learn more skills. Exploration and fighting are well-balanced, creating an enjoyable experience that doesn’t feel too long or repetitive.
The Unique Artistry Of This Game Makes It Unlike Almost Every Other Action-Adventure Title

The game South of Midnight features a striking Southern gothic world, with lush swamps, glowing wetlands, and atmospheric bayous brought to life in stunning detail. While the game includes imposing mythical creatures, not all of them are hostile – many offer wisdom and help you refine your magical abilities. The decaying setting of Prospero blends natural beauty with remnants of the past, creating a unique American aesthetic rarely seen in games.
This game’s captivating adventure is beautifully enhanced by its incredible soundtrack. The music reflects the culture of the American South, deeply immersing you in each level’s atmosphere. Authentic sounds of the Deep South are woven into the game’s folklore and central themes. The story focuses on Hazel’s ability to heal spirits burdened by tragic pasts, and this is brought to life through stunning, handcrafted stop-motion clay animation.
Excellent Exploration Of Deep South Mythos Combines With Agile Gameplay Steeped In Fascinating Folklore

In South of Midnight, movement feels incredibly smooth, mirroring the beautiful animation. You play as Hazel, who can double jump, run on walls, and glide to reach hidden areas. She can also use special powers called “Echoes” to bring objects from the past into the present, unlocking even more secrets. Exploring the environment presents fun challenges, and curious players will be rewarded with helpful upgrades like extra health, new abilities, and improved skills.
The combat in this game is fairly simple to pick up, working much like Devil May Cry when dealing with groups of enemies and challenging bosses. Like many great action games, South of Midnight presents Hazel with enemy encounters that must be overcome to advance. However, the real stars of the show are the bosses – inspired by creatures from folklore. The combat system offers plenty to keep you engaged, with spells that recharge over time, dual hook weapons, and special moves to confuse your opponents, and it only gets deeper as you unlock new abilities.
The exciting combat in South of Midnight isn’t just about action; it also creates meaningful connections between Hazel and her enemies. When Hazel defeats a powerful foe, she doesn’t just win – she helps them overcome their painful memories and heal from past trauma. This thoughtful approach, combined with clear inspiration from beloved sources, makes South of Midnight a brief but charming game that could be perfect for Nintendo Switch 2 owners.
