Kirby Air Riders is a racing game unlike any other in the Kirby universe. You can race as Kirby and other familiar faces, like King Dedede, both on the ground and in the air. A key part of the game is choosing the right vehicle, or ‘Machine,’ and then mastering the boost system – it’s used for everything from braking and drifting to controlling your speed during a race, and it can be pretty challenging!
Nintendo fans often get short notice before a Nintendo Direct presentation. However, the amount of attention being given to Kirby Air Riders is unusual. Directs usually highlight several games, but this is the second full presentation dedicated to just one title – and one that most people weren’t expecting. It seems Nintendo is really hoping Kirby Air Riders will be a major hit during the holiday season. As the third game exclusively for the new Nintendo Switch 2, the company likely wants to make the most of its launch. Like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza before it, Kirby Air Riders is getting a dedicated, in-depth look.
