So, a few weeks back, Nintendo dropped this weird little animated short called “Close to You.” Everyone immediately thought it had something to do with Pikmin, and they were right! Nintendo confirmed it was Pikmin moving stuff around in the video. But we were all left wondering what that meant – a lot of us were hoping for a Pikmin 5 announcement. Well, Nintendo finally shared some big Pikmin news today, but it’s not exactly what we were expecting.
Instead of announcing a new Pikmin game, Nintendo is surprising fans with a free update for Pikmin 4 on Nintendo Switch. Coming in November, the update will add a good amount of fresh content, including a connection to the Pikmin Bloom mobile game.
Pikmin 4 Free Update Adds New Difficulty Modes, Pikmin, And More
Nintendo recently revealed details about a new, free update for Pikmin 4 and shared a trailer showcasing what’s coming. The trailer gives players a first look at features like the Field Camera and Decor Pikmin. You can watch the preview trailer below.
A new update for Pikmin 4 adds a Field Camera photo mode and introduces Decor Pikmin. These Pikmin, dressed in costumes like wind-up toys and donuts, originally appeared in Pikmin Bloom. Players can find and collect them in Pikmin 4, and even transfer them to Pikmin Bloom to expand their mobile game collection.
The latest free update for Pikmin 4 introduces two new ways to play: Relaxed and Fierce. Relaxed mode makes the game easier by preventing enemies from attacking you unless you initiate it. Fierce mode, on the other hand, is for players who want a more difficult experience in Pikmin 4.
Although a specific date hasn’t been announced, a free update for Pikmin will arrive in November. While fans are happy to see continued support for the game, some were hoping for an announcement of Pikmin 5. This update for Pikmin 4 suggests Nintendo may have been building excitement for a smaller addition to the series instead.
Just because Pikmin 4 received a free update doesn’t rule out a future announcement about a new Pikmin game. The update might actually be a way to build excitement for the series before a new installment is revealed. However, this update makes it seem less probable that Nintendo’s recent animated short was hinting at Pikmin 5. Regardless, Pikmin fans have something to look forward to with new free content coming to both the latest console game and the mobile version.
You can play Pikmin 4 on the Nintendo Switch, and it will also work on the new Switch 2 console. However, there isn’t a special, enhanced version of the game made specifically for the Switch 2. A free demo is available to try, and any progress you make in the demo can be transferred to the full game if you purchase it.
A new free update is available for Pikmin 4! Share your thoughts and discuss it with other fans in the ComicBook Forum!
