Survival games have become incredibly popular over the last ten years, with titles like Subnautica, Rust, Palworld, Valheim, and The Forest achieving huge success. While Nintendo consoles haven’t always gotten these popular games, that looks set to change. A major survival title is now confirmed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Jeremy Stieglitz, co-founder and director of Studio Wildcard, recently told PCGamesN that they are planning to bring Ark: Survival Ascended to the next-generation Nintendo Switch. Survival Ascended, which launched in 2023, is a complete rebuild of the popular game Ark: Survival Evolved using the Unreal Engine 5. While player reactions have been somewhat mixed, Studio Wildcard is consistently releasing updates to improve the game, and bringing it to the Switch 2 is part of their ongoing plans.
According to Jeremy Stieglitz, development of Ark: Survival Ascended for the new Nintendo Switch is ongoing. While he couldn’t give a release date due to some remaining uncertainties, he confirmed they have playable versions running on the Switch 2. He also explained that this is only possible thanks to the updated version of Unreal Engine.
Stieglitz is talking about Unreal Engine 5.7, a significant update to the already popular game engine. This update promises performance improvements for the current version of Ark: Survival Ascended, which is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Thanks to these upgrades, Studio Wildcard can now also bring the game to the upcoming Switch 2, something that wouldn’t have been possible a year ago.
Studio Wildcard hasn’t shown us any gameplay footage of Ark: Survival Ascended on the upcoming Switch 2 yet, so we don’t know how it will look. However, the fact that the game is currently in development for the platform suggests we might get a more concrete look at the Switch 2 version in the coming months.
