Nintendo is having a very successful period, with the Switch 2 selling over ten million units more quickly than the first Switch. According to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, this growth is the quickest they’ve ever seen for any of their home gaming consoles.
According to Furukawa, a large majority – 84% – of people who bought the new Switch 2 previously owned the original Switch. He believes this demonstrates strong customer loyalty, as existing fans are easily upgrading to the new model and continuing their relationship with the Nintendo platform.
He also noted that the Switch 1 didn’t have a typical initial surge in sales, suggesting it’s maintained steady sales since its 2017 launch. Nintendo’s popular first-party games, like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, have contributed to this success.
Furukawa also pointed to strong support from software developers right from the start, which led to a larger selection of games at launch than any of Nintendo’s previous dedicated gaming systems.
These early signs suggest the Nintendo Switch 2 is off to a strong start and is building a solid base for future success.
As of September 30, 2025, over 400 million people have created Nintendo Accounts. Considering Nintendo Switch sales numbers, this suggests many people are sharing consoles to play games – which is positive for Nintendo, especially as they develop features like GameChat and Game Share.
The highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will finally launch on December 4th after eight years in development. The newest trailer is the best one yet, showcasing the world of Viewros, Samus Aran’s upgraded skills, and a cool new move called the Akira Slide on the planet Vi-0-La. As for the future of the Switch (both the original and the upcoming Switch 2), this game is a major highlight.
