Nintendo Switch 2 Users Warned to “Beware” of Issue When Using Handheld Mode

Owners of the Nintendo Switch 2 have been cautioned about a potential problem when playing in handheld mode. After four months with the new console, some users are discovering an issue. A recent popular post on the Switch 2 Reddit page highlights a specific warning that may affect many players.

Nintendo Switch 2 owners have been cautioned against putting the console in sleep mode inside a bag with a controller. Apparently, the controller can accidentally turn the Switch on, causing it to overheat quickly while inside the bag. This overheating could permanently damage the console, and even if it doesn’t, it will drain the already weak battery life.

Solutions

If this keeps happening, there are a few simple fixes. You can turn on airplane mode on the console to stop it from connecting to the controller, preventing the console from turning on. Completely powering off the console will also work. Finally, you can protect both the console and controller by using travel cases that keep the buttons from being accidentally pressed, which stops the console from waking up.

This issue also affected the original Nintendo Switch, and it’s something most people don’t consider until it actually happens. Typically, the console will power on, quickly overheat, and then the battery will drain. While frustrating, this isn’t usually a major problem. However, excessive heat can potentially damage the device.

It seems many other Nintendo Switch 2 owners are experiencing this same problem, which isn’t unexpected given the number of similar reports on the Switch Reddit page over time.
