A highly anticipated game scheduled for release next month has been delayed on the Nintendo Switch 2. Since the new console launched last year, several major games – including Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Resident Evil Requiem, and Street Fighter 6 – have also become available on Switch 2. Unfortunately, fans hoping to play this particular game in May will now have to wait longer.
IO Interactive announced today that the release of their new James Bond game, 007 First Light, will be delayed on the Switch 2. The game is still scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on May 27th, but the Switch 2 version will now come out sometime later this summer. IO Interactive didn’t explain the reason for the delay, but it appears developing the game for the Switch 2 has proven more challenging than for other platforms.
This Is a Concerning Trend for Switch 2 Games
IO Interactive isn’t alone in releasing a Switch 2 version of a game after it’s available on other platforms. A recent example is Borderlands 4. Gearbox Software initially intended to bring the game to the Switch 2, but development was put on hold, and it’s currently unclear if work will continue.
While the game 007 First Light appears to still be on track for the Switch 2, it’s concerning that some developers are already having trouble getting their games to run on the new system. As technology advances with future consoles like the PS6 and the next Xbox, games will inevitably become more demanding, making it even harder to port them to the Switch 2. Most Switch 2 owners likely expected these kinds of issues to arise later, not so soon after the console’s release.
