The game that was due for release on the Nintendo Switch in the near future has unfortunately been scrapped. However, players can still anticipate its launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X platforms. Essentially, it’s only the Nintendo Switch version of the game that’s been called off. No specific reasons have been given for this cancellation, nor is there any hint about a potential release of a new Nintendo Switch 2 edition, although such an option remains speculative.
The game in dispute that was recently cancelled by Nintendo is called “The Knightling,” developed by Twirlbound and published by Saber Interactive. It’s worth noting that Saber Interactive, a prominent name in the gaming industry, has been behind several successful titles throughout the years. This sudden cancellation, therefore, seems quite peculiar given their reputation. On the other hand, Twirlbound – a relatively small studio based in the Netherlands – is set to launch its second project with this release. Their debut project was “Pine,” which hit the market back in 2019.
Twirlbound and Saber Interactive are thrilled about the impending debut of The Knightling, slated for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S on August 28, 2025. However, we regret to announce that The Knightling will no longer be available on Nintendo Switch. This decision was not easy and we sympathize with fans who were eagerly awaiting the Switch version. The other platforms have been finalized, and the team is now putting the finishing touches before release. We can hardly wait for you all to embark on this epic shield-sliding journey on August 28!
From a passionate fan’s perspective, it seems plausible that the Nintendo Switch version of our anticipated game was scrapped due to technical challenges in optimizing it for the console’s relatively limited capabilities. However, I must emphasize that this is merely conjecture. It leaves me puzzled to understand any other potential reasons behind such a sudden cancellation at the eleventh hour.
On August 14, 2024, it was announced that Knightling would be available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED, as well as other platforms. The trailer for the game has garnered 111,000 views, indicating a strong desire among Nintendo fans for its smaller release. However, disappointingly, those who own a Nintendo Switch will require either a PC, an Xbox Series X, or a PS5 to fulfill their anticipation of the game.
