The new Nintendo Switch 2 offers improvements over the original, but it’s taking a step back when it comes to streaming. Unlike the previous model, the Switch 2 doesn’t support popular streaming apps. Now, the original Switch is also losing streaming options – the Hulu app has been removed from the eShop and will soon stop working altogether.
Nintendo announced on January 7th that the Hulu app will no longer be available on Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED consoles. The app has been removed from the eShop and will stop working completely on February 5th. After that date, you won’t be able to stream Hulu on your Switch.
Nintendo Switch Is Losing Hulu, But Other Streamers Might Be Safe (For Now)

While popular streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ never launched on the Nintendo Switch, platforms like YouTube, Hulu, and Crunchyroll have been available. This allowed users to watch shows while traveling, but it appears this feature will soon be discontinued.
Currently, the new Switch 2 doesn’t have apps for Crunchyroll or YouTube available in the Nintendo eShop. While the YouTube app is listed as potentially working but unverified, Crunchyroll is confirmed not to work on the Switch 2. Nintendo hasn’t said if either app will be added in the future. The fact that Hulu has been removed doesn’t necessarily mean other streaming apps will disappear from the original Switch anytime soon.
Crunchyroll and YouTube are currently still working on the original Nintendo Switch, and there aren’t any plans to remove them. This is great news for anime fans, as Crunchyroll has become a more popular streaming choice on Switch than Hulu ever was. While these apps aren’t fully set up for the new Switch 2 yet, Switch owners shouldn’t worry about losing access to their favorite streaming services just because Hulu is no longer available.
Why Hulu is Leaving the Nintendo Switch

Nintendo didn’t decide to end Hulu. Instead, Hulu is being removed as a separate app and its content is moving into Disney+. You’ll still be able to watch Hulu shows, but they’ll now be found within Disney+.
With the merging of streaming services, the separate Hulu app – including the one on Nintendo Switch – will be discontinued. Because Disney+ was never available on Switch, there isn’t a direct replacement right now. However, Crunchyroll and YouTube should continue to work on the original Switch, as Nintendo isn’t the one making these changes. It’s still uncertain if those apps will be supported on the upcoming Switch 2.
