Starting March 28, Nintendo Switch Online will receive an update with four new free games, marking the addition of all Super NES (SNES) games to the service. Since its launch in 2018, Nintendo has been gradually reintroducing a significant portion of both the NES and SNES libraries, with the exception of games tied up in licensing issues. Over the years, this practice has left only lesser-known SNES titles for future additions. The four new games to be added next week are all deep cuts from the SNES library.
Starting next Friday, Nintendo Switch Online will receive these free SNES games as updates: Nobunaga’s Ambition, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Lord of Darkness, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4: Wall of Fire, and Uncharted Water: New Horizons. If you’re not a fan of the SNES era Nobunaga’s Ambition series, there may not be much in these updates that would excite you.
Unlike certain free Nintendo Switch Online games that necessitate the Expansion Pack subscription level, there’s no such requirement for these free games. This applies to all SNES games accessible through the Nintendo Switch platform. Unlike some retro consoles like the N64, the SNES is not restricted to the Expansion Pack tier.
