Over time, the Nintendo Classics apps have granted users the ability to play numerous classic games from various older systems. Recently, the GameCube app on Nintendo Switch Online introduced “Super Mario Strikers”, and some sharp-eyed fans believe they’ve uncovered clues about upcoming releases. In fact, Nintendo previewed new features coming to the N64 app back in May, and during that trailer, images of box art, slightly blurred, were shown in the background. These viewers suspect these images may be hints for games set to be launched soon.
Via their Discord platform, streamer @ImakuniVT has been attempting to clarify some of the vague images in the background. While this doesn’t guarantee anything, it seems that Donkey Kong 64, Forsaken, Rayman 2: The Great Escape, Glover, and the original Super Smash Bros could potentially be coming soon. It’s important to mention that this is merely speculation based on a Nintendo video, so there’s no definitive confirmation as to when (or even if) these games will actually appear on Nintendo Switch Online. Nevertheless, for fans who have been anxiously awaiting more N64 games on the service, these titles would certainly be warmly received.
I began searching on Discord for the games that Nintendo might have unintentionally revealed with their May NSO update video, and here are our findings so far. We’re in the process of comparing box arts, but this is what we’ve got for now!

Among the five games listed, it’s highly plausible that both “Donkey Kong 64” and “Super Smash Bros.” could potentially join the lineup of Nintendo Switch Online. This is because they were previously available through the Virtual Console and are original Nintendo titles. The potential obstacle for “Donkey Kong 64” might be its incorporation of content owned by Microsoft, specifically Rare’s “Jetpac” game. However, Nintendo has already made exceptions with games like “Banjo-Kazooie” and “Perfect Dark” on their online service. On the other hand, “Super Smash Bros.” lacks any known legal hurdles that could prevent its addition, making its absence from Nintendo Switch Online noticeable.
The Great Escape” could potentially be the best fit for inclusion due to the positive reception it received upon its original release.
At present, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers should remain hopeful and show some patience as they eagerly await any upcoming announcements. If indeed all five of these games are set to join the N64 Nintendo Classics app, it would mark a delightful expansion. As it stands, the N64 library on the system is already robust, but there remains a multitude of cherished games yet to be added. Here’s hoping this announcement signals that Nintendo has plenty more exciting plans in store for the future.
