Nintendo Switch Online has been updated several times since it launched, and recently, Nintendo announced a significant change. The Game Voucher program will end on January 30th, 2026. After 11:59 PM local time that day, you won’t be able to buy Game Vouchers anymore, so you have less than a day to purchase them before the program is discontinued.
For a long time, Nintendo Switch Online members could save money on Nintendo games using Game Vouchers. These vouchers let players get two games for $100, effectively giving a $20 discount. However, with the upcoming Switch 2, this program is likely ending, possibly because games on the platform now cost more on average. While vouchers can’t be used for Switch 2 games, you can still buy them in your Nintendo Switch Online account until the end of today. Keep in mind that vouchers don’t expire immediately; they’re good for a year from the date you originally purchased them.
Nintendo Switch Online Users Have a Solid Suggestion For How to Use Your Last Game Vouchers

Nintendo is ending its Game Voucher program in January 2025, but you still have time to use any vouchers you’ve already purchased. Vouchers are good for one year after you buy them, so check your purchase date! If you bought a voucher last year, it’s still valid. Any vouchers purchased today will be usable until January 2027.
Since new games for the Switch 2 won’t work with your existing vouchers, your choices for buying new games are already somewhat limited. If you have unused Game Vouchers, you might want to redeem them soon. It’s probably best to avoid buying more vouchers unless you know exactly which older Switch games you want. Some players have suggested a good way to use your vouchers on a recently released Switch game to get a discount.
Nintendo has announced that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will be released on the original Nintendo Switch just before the Game Vouchers expire. This could be one of the last major first-party games Nintendo releases for that console. Good news for Nintendo Switch Online members – the game is eligible for use with a Game Voucher! If you’ve been waiting for Tomodachi Life and still have a voucher, now’s the time to pre-order the life simulation game.

Get ready for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, launching on April 16th, 2026! It’s available for pre-order now, and you might be able to get it for a discount if you have Nintendo Game Vouchers. If you bought Vouchers in pairs, you may already have two ready to use. Just keep in mind that these Vouchers won’t work for future Switch 2 games, but they are good for catching up on older Switch titles. You can find a full list of eligible games on Nintendo’s website, including new releases like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and the original Switch version of Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
Nintendo hasn’t said whether they’ll offer a new discount program like the Game Vouchers for games on the upcoming Switch 2. While it’s possible they’re planning something, right now they’ve only confirmed that the original Game Voucher program is ending.
