Nintendo Switch Online members in Europe are currently receiving a free copy of an RPG originally released on the Switch in 2021. The good news is this offer is available to all members, no matter what type of Nintendo Switch Online subscription they have – you don’t need the pricier Expansion Pack! While it’s not available yet in North America, it’s expected to arrive within the next few hours or days, following the pattern of similar promotions.
Some Nintendo Switch Online members can currently download and play the full game, but this free access ends on October 22nd. After that date, you’ll need to buy the game to keep playing, though your saved progress will carry over. The challenge is that *Shin Megami Tensei V* is a long game, taking 50 to 70 hours to complete. That’s like needing to play for seven straight days, consistently, before the free trial ends.
About the Game
Developed by Atlus, the creators of the popular *Persona* series, and published by Sega, *Shin Megami Tensei V* is a role-playing game within the larger *Shin Megami Tensei* and *Megami Tensei* franchises. Originally released in 2021 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, it arrived on other platforms in 2024 with an expanded version called *Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance*. This expanded version is now available to play with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
The RPG received positive reviews after its launch, earning an 84 on Metacritic and being nominated for Best Role-Playing Game at The Game Awards. It has sold over two million copies so far, proving successful for its creators. However, the series hasn’t achieved the same level of popularity as the related *Persona* series.
You play as a powerful demigod in a turn-based battle to save a Tokyo shattered by a war between angels and demons. The city’s survival, and much more, rests on your shoulders.
