One of the biggest challenges in Nioh 3 is the infamous secret boss the Bloodedge Demon.
Yamagata Masakage is more than just a tough opponent—he’s incredibly difficult to even locate. He’s a real challenge on every level.
You’ll need to practice blocking attacks, or you’ll quickly find yourself back at the nearest Shrine.
While you’re here, you may as well brush up on how to emote, as well as how Spirit Veins work.
If you’re determined to defeat it, here’s a guide to finding the Bloodedge Demon and, crucially, how to win the fight.
Where to find the Bloodedge Demon in Nioh 3

The Bloodedge Demon in Nioh 3 is different from other bosses because it doesn’t stay in one place. Each time you fight it, it appears in a new, random location.
You can locate it by finding and defeating Revenants – they’re shown as small red markers on the map.
When you defeat a Revenant, a red energy trail will lead towards the Bloodedge Demon, and a red arrow will appear on your map to show you the way.
To find the Bloodedge Demon, the most effective method is to defeat Revenants one after another, moving roughly halfway across the map each time. Keep repeating this process – defeating a Revenant and moving – to gradually pinpoint its location.
Try not to eliminate too many Revenants. The more you defeat, the stronger the Bloodedge Demon gets, and that’s something you’ll want to avoid.
You can’t miss the Bloodedge Demon’s location – it’s marked by a huge cluster of crystals glowing with a noticeable, pulsing purple light. Trust us, it’s very distinct.
Just walk up to the creature and press and hold the R1 button (or RB on Xbox controllers) to start the battle – it’s going to be a tough one!

How to beat the Bloodedge Demon in Nioh 3
The Bloodedge Demon is a tough opponent, particularly if you’re not a high level. We suggest reaching at least Level 25 before attempting the fight, though a higher level will make it even easier.
If there are Acolytes close by, summoning them can be really useful. They can both damage the Demon and distract it, taking some of the pressure off of you.
For the best results in this fight, we suggest using a Samurai fighting style to benefit from its tougher armor. Pair that with a slow, but hard-hitting weapon like an Axe, so you can deal significant damage whenever the Demon isn’t attacking.
The Bloodedge Demon relies on quick, powerful attacks. We discovered that often the most effective strategy is to simply withstand them. You can parry short combos of one or two hits to build up Ki, and block the rest.
A useful strategy is to quickly switch between fighting styles. We suggest frequently changing to Ninja style, using all your Ninjutsu techniques, and then switching back to Samurai style.

Occasionally, the Demon will charge up a powerful, unavoidable attack signaled by red energy. While you can dodge it, we recommend aggressively attacking with your Burst Break to maximize Ki damage.
Throughout the battle, we repeatedly disrupted the Bloodedge Demon – sometimes by blocking its attacks, other times with powerful special moves, and often just by hitting it hard. We managed to knock it off balance two or three times.
Okay, so as a tip from one fan to another, you really want to use your Living Artifact the instant your Amrita Gauge fills up. Seriously, the damage boost is huge, and it makes a massive difference in battle!
This battle is still challenging, even with these strategies, so don’t get discouraged if you have trouble.
The Bloodedge Demon will reappear frequently, meaning you can always gain a few more levels and come back to challenge it later.
Nioh 3 Bloodedge Demon rewards
Defeating the Bloodedge Demon can give you up to 10 powerful weapons and armor. These items will be randomly selected and adjusted to match your character’s level.

Finally, defeating him rewards you with a Bloodedge Demon Soul Core and a significant amount of experience, making the fight well worth the effort.
