Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, recently explained that while the game’s structure will be more streamlined, the total amount of content won’t be reduced, despite earlier promises of a more concise approach.
In an interview with VGC, he discussed concerns some players had after playing Rebirth, the second game in the series. These players felt the new story content added to Final Fantasy 7 made the overall narrative feel drawn out.
They were curious if we planned to explore similar ideas in the next game. I’m really happy with how Rebirth turned out – the speed, story, and gameplay all feel just right. I don’t think it’s too long or drawn out, and I believe many players would agree that we hit the mark with its length and content.
I’m really excited for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, and the developers have said they’re focusing on keeping the story moving at a good pace. They don’t want it to feel slow or drag on. Apparently, some people got the wrong idea and thought that meant they were actually reducing the amount of stuff we’d get to play, but that wasn’t their intention at all!
It seems like some people misunderstood what I said. They thought I meant we’d reduce the amount of content, make the game shorter, or remove story elements, but that’s not at all what I intended to communicate.
He explained that the key is ensuring the story moves at a good pace. It’s not about removing content, but about making sure the speed feels natural and allows the audience to follow along comfortably. Ultimately, he wanted to emphasize the importance of finding the right rhythm for the story.
Considering how Part 3 fits into the overall story, Hamaguchi really focused on getting the timing right – it acts as the conclusion while also resolving the new mysteries that were introduced. Regardless, fans who enjoyed the extra content in Rebirth will find there’s still plenty to do.
While a release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 hasn’t been announced, Square Enix knows when they plan to reveal it, according to creative director Tetsuya Nomura. The game is set to launch on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 all at the same time, and development is progressing smoothly, according to Hamaguchi.
