Hideo Kojima appears unenthused about next month’s Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake, which is a faithful recreation of the game he made at Konami. In a recent interview with SSense, when asked if he plans to play it, he chuckles and says bluntly: “No, I won’t.” (Paraphrased)
On August 28th, 2025, the Virtous remake for the PS5 remains remarkably faithful to the original PS2 versions, preserving the voice acting and adhering strictly to the creative vision and design of the development team at that time. Additionally, the loading screens that appear between various game locations will also return as part of this remake.
Indeed, Hideo Kojima no longer played a role in the creation of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, since he’s now spearheading Kojima Productions as an independent company. However, the original team will still be recognized in the credits, with Hideo Kojima among them.
One significant absence in the upcoming PS5 remake will be the exclusion of an opening screen proclaiming it as “a Hideo Kojama game.” However, this decision aligns with a tradition started by Konami. As producer Noriaki Okamura mentioned last year, this is just following established conventions.
It has consistently been true that games not directly overseen by Mr. Kojima are not considered as ‘a Hideo Kojima game.’ Given this convention, it seemed fitting to adhere to this practice for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater as well.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the classic title, will be released for PS5 on 28th August. It appears to live up to its reputation and offers some quality-of-life enhancements. In a preview from August 2024, we referred to it as a “devoted remake” and stated: “By refraining from altering the gameplay or story, Konami and Virtuos are refining near-perfection. Based on the Virtuous Mission, they are approaching the project in an appropriate manner.
