As a No Man’s Sky player, I recently tackled Expedition 20: Breach Redux, and let me tell you, it’s a pretty long one if you don’t know what you’re doing! It’s one of those limited-time Expeditions, so you need to jump in before it’s gone, but be prepared to spend some time with it.
Because you don’t have much time, you’ll probably want to complete this quickly. Luckily, with the right approach, it only takes about two hours – it’s actually quite manageable.
Keep reading to find out exactly what you need to do to finish each step of this Expedition as efficiently as possible.
Starting the Expedition
You can begin a new Expedition in one of two ways. You can either start a fresh save file, or use the Expedition terminal located in the Space Anomaly on an existing save.
We suggest starting the Expedition with a previously saved game. This lets you save up resources beforehand, which will be helpful when the Space Anomaly opens during the Expedition, and can help you progress faster!
If you do this, here’s a shopping list of everything you should bring with you:
- 1 Warp Cell
- 5 Solar Mirrors
- 5 Quantum Computers
- 5 Metal Platings
- 100 Magnetized Ferrite
- 100 Oxygen
- 3 Di-Hydrogen Jellies
- 12 Radiant Shards
- 192 Polished Stones
- Hazmat Gauntlet
- Advanced Mining Laser
Don’t worry if you’re missing some of these materials! We’ll let you know how to get them when you need them. They’re not required, but they can make the process a little faster.
Seriously, don’t forget to grab your rewards from those Milestones as soon as you finish them! They give you the stuff you need to tackle the next ones, and I’ve totally missed out before – it’s a pain to realize you could have had resources all along!
Just a reminder: only install Modules you receive from Milestones if you plan to use them. Otherwise, it’s best to hold onto them – you can sell them for Nanite later.
Finally, please don’t enter the black holes located in the center of the Expedition unless specifically instructed. They will redirect you and cause significant delays.
With all of those basics laid down, it’s time to go over the Expedition itself!
Early Expedition
1. Farming the Basics
Collect only the essential materials. If you have everything we discussed earlier, here’s what you’ll need:
- 30 Oxygen
- 150 Ferrite Dust
- 175 Quartzite
- 50 Carbon
If you’re starting with nothing at all, you’ll need the following instead:
- 60 Oxygen
- 400 Ferrite Dust
- 400 Quartzite
- 120 Di-Hydrogen
- 100 Carbon
2. Find Your Ship
Head to the location shown on your screen to find your ship. Once you do, take the Personal Refiner and use it to convert 50 Ferrite Dust into 50 Pure Ferrite, and all of your Quartzite into Chromatic Metal. Finally, craft one Metal Plating.
Use the Repair Kit on your ship and the materials you’ve accumulated so far to repair it fully.
3. Shooting the Asteroids
Get on your Starship and fly off the planet, then shoot down 15 Asteroids.
4. Zuppa Desert +
Okay, so my next mission is to head over to the planet called “Zuppa Desert +” and grab five Sulphide Crystals from those underwater vents. While I’m down there exploring, I’m also supposed to scan and record info on any sea creatures that weigh more than 6kg. Oh, and I need to remember to install that Optical Drill I earned – sounds like I’ll need it!
5. Space Station Visit
Head to the closest Space Station and sell your Crystal Sulphide at the main terminal. Use the money to buy as much Carbon as you can. Then, make 5 Carbon Nanotubes and 5 Microprocessors. Finally, turn any leftover Carbon into Condensed Carbon.
6. Leaving the System
If you already have a Warp Cell from the Space Anomaly, make one more. If not, craft two. You’ll need these to build and power a Hyperdrive.
Once you’re done, go back out to space and warp to the Aitoig-Bifor system.
Between the Stars
1. Space Anomaly Unlocked
Once you’ve made your first jump to another star system, you’ll unlock access to the Space Anomaly. If you collected any materials at the beginning of the game, you can go there to get them back.
2. Friends in Odd Places
First, make sure you’ve reached the “Friends in Odd Places” achievement. Once you have, travel to the Rensayst XVIII system. On the planet there, nicknamed “Spicey,” find and care for the unique floating creatures – you can even adopt them!
3. Dereliction
Keep using the Emergency Signal Scanner you’ve earned to locate a Derelict Freighter. Once you find it, board and thoroughly explore it by obtaining the Security Credentials and using all three main terminals.
If you didn’t gather supplies when you first arrived through the Space Anomaly, be sure to collect 40 Sodium and 100 Oxygen from the floating containers on the freighter.
Even if you did bring materials, though, try looting everything you can just in case.
Install the Hyperdrive module from the rewards here. Also craft and install a Hazmat Gauntlet.
4. Metamorphosis
Return to space and travel to the planet Nadleyvo. Locate and gather any Vile Larva (also known as Grubs) you find. Once you have them, go back to your Starship, turn on the Pulse Engine, and then destroy the Vile Larva from your inventory.
Yet Another System
1. Timestamp: 1
Follow the first milestone, marked as “Timestamp: 1,” to its designated location on another planet. Simply go to the spot indicated by the marker to complete it.
2. Space Station Visit
Head to the closest Space Station. First, put your Starship’s S-Class Hyperdrive into storage there. Then, move all the items from your Starship’s inventory into your personal inventory.
If you didn’t get supplies from the Space Anomaly, sell any cooking items you’ve earned. Then, buy as much Carbon as you can and 5 Microprocessors. Next, gather 200 Gold and 150 Silver by mining asteroids. Finally, build 5 Solar Mirrors, 5 Quantum Computers, 3 Di-Hydrogen Jellies, and 5 Metal Platings.
Also, refine 90 Magnetized Ferrite, buy 2 Wiring Looms, and craft 1 Carbon Nanotube.
Either way, craft a Debris Rangefinder with all of these materials.
3. Door to the Stars
Complete this milestone to build a Corvette-class Starship using the Corvette Workshop on the Space Station. Once built, equip it with the Hypedrive – this will become your primary ship going forward.
4. Shipbreaking
Find a shipwreck using the Debris Rangefinder and search it thoroughly. Collect all the items you can, paying special attention to the ship’s log. Then, equip the Aqua Jets you find.
5. Katr Gamma (Optional)
If you didn’t get any supplies from the Space Anomaly, head to “Katr Gamma.” There, use the Advanced Mining Laser to collect 12 Radiant Shards for the “Radiance” quest.
Warping Around Some More
1. Timestamp: 2 and Diving
Continue monitoring this milestone and proceed to the designated planet. Once there, construct a Nautilon Platform.
Use the Humboldt Drive you earned to reach the next reward level, descending 800 units. Once at the bottom, locate and gather 3 pieces of Sea Glass.
2. Lost in Time
Build four Debris Rangefinders. Use one of them to locate a shipwreck, then explore the wreck and retrieve its logbook to complete this step.
3. Timestamp: 3 and Cosmic Horrors
Things haven’t changed much! Keep an eye on the milestone and let it guide you. When you reach the new planet, you’ll need to battle the Hungering Tendrils at the Titan Worm Burrow. First, defeat 10 of the creatures they summon, then take down 3 of the tendrils themselves.
4. The Fate of the Stars
Turn on another Debris Rangefinder to locate a third shipwreck. Once you find it, search the wreckage and be sure to grab its logbook, like you’ve done with the others.
Moons and Blackholes
1. Timestamp: 4
You’ve seen this before, but just to reiterate: keep an eye on the current goal and the designated point on your map. Also, gather 5 Storm Crystals on the next planet you visit to make further progress.
2. Lunar Cluster
Explore every moon orbiting the current planet. The Discoveries tab can help you keep track of which ones you still need to find, making the task much simpler.
3. Frail Bodies
Use another Debris Rangefinder, find another shipwreck, and collect its log.
4. No Time for Caution
Remember when we said to avoid black holes unless specifically instructed? This is that instruction! Follow the “No Time for Caution” milestone, and then enter the black hole it directs you to.
This will bring you to the same system used for milestone “Timestamp: 5”. Be sure to monitor that milestone and use its indicator to finish it.
Finishing Up
1. Scanning and Gathering
At the planet marked “Timestamp: 5”, scan five unique creatures and collect 192 Polished Stones to unlock the next two objectives. Then, turn some of those Polished Stones into Pure Ferrite.
2. Grave Robber
Keep track of the required bone types as you find them to build a complete fossil. Once you have everything, assemble it on a Quadruped Fossil Display, fill out the display details, and then package it up to finish the task.
3. Reborn in Song
This task is similar to others you’ve completed before. Find a shipwreck using the Debris Rangefinder, then retrieve its logbook.
4. Hooked and Jellyflesh
Equip the Fishing Rig you previously earned, then return to the last planet you visited. Find a body of water and catch three fish to complete this step.
Keep fishing until you catch the Spawn of Arcadia. Once you have it, release it – this will summon a boss. Defeat the boss to complete the final step and finish the Expedition!
Claiming Rewards

With all the goals completed, all that’s left to do is finish the Expedition by traveling to the Space Anomaly. If you’re playing with an older save file, you can complete it at the same terminal where you began.
Now you can also visit a Space Station and sell any modules you don’t need for Nanites. Or, if you prefer, you can hold onto them and move them to your main game later.
You can also head to the Space Anomaly and visit the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion to get your rewards!
This guide covers everything you need to complete Expedition 20: Breach Redux in No Man’s Sky as efficiently as possible. While it’s still a long expedition, these steps should help you finish it quickly.
