The entertainment world is buzzing with news that Warner Bros. Discovery might be sold. It’s rare for a major studio to become available, so many companies submitted offers. Paramount was interested, but they suspected something wasn’t right and announced that Warner Bros. Discovery was secretly negotiating a deal with Netflix. Netflix, primarily known for its streaming service, is hoping to grow its business by buying Warner Bros. Discovery.
A major draw of owning Warner Bros. Discovery is its valuable collection of popular franchises. HBO Max is currently developing a Harry Potter TV series, and Netflix would likely be very interested in having some control over its direction and the future of the Wizarding World. However, online discussions are currently dominated by another topic: the Snyderverse. While it seems unlikely that reviving Zack Snyder’s DC superhero franchise is a top priority for Netflix, it could actually be a smart move, allowing them to appeal to fans and expand their content offerings.
Netflix Has Always Been the Only Hope for the Snyderverse

Warner Bros. initially trusted filmmaker Zack Snyder in the early 2010s to build a DC movie universe that could compete with Marvel. Instead of following Marvel’s formula, Snyder aimed for a grittier, more serious tone, exploring the challenges faced by superheroes. The films released under his vision had varying degrees of success – some performed well, while others failed with both critics and audiences. After less than ten years, Warner Bros. decided to change direction and put James Gunn in charge. By then, Snyder had already moved on, finding a home for his project, Rebel Moon, at Netflix.
During promotion for his sci-fi series, Snyder was questioned about the DC Universe’s future. Eager to impress the new leadership at Warner Bros. Discovery, he suggested he’d be willing to revisit the project if Netflix obtained the rights. His dedicated fans immediately seized on this, launching a campaign to convince Netflix and Warner Bros. to collaborate and revive the characters. While this seemed highly unlikely at the time, recent events have given those hopes a boost. If the sale of DC goes through, Netflix will likely face questions about the franchise’s direction, including whether they’ll interfere with James Gunn’s plans. However, they could easily avoid the topic altogether by simply staying out of it.
Bringing Back the Snyderverse Could Help Netflix in More Ways Than One

Beyond the impact on comic book storylines, many are concerned that if Netflix buys Warner Bros. Discovery, fewer movies will be shown in cinemas. Netflix often clashes with directors, preferring to release content directly on its streaming platform. While it’s unlikely James Gunn and his team will be forced to release everything online, Netflix could have a chance to maintain the DC Studios brand while also developing separate content. This could even mean a revival of Zack Snyder’s vision for DC, with Snyder producing new shows and films exclusively on Netflix, potentially bringing back familiar actors. This approach could allow DC to compete with Marvel by having content on both the big and small screens, satisfying fans on both sides.
Okay, so there are a couple of hurdles here. It’s tricky because Netflix and Zack Snyder aren’t exactly friends right now – they dropped all his projects after Rebel Moon didn’t really take off. Plus, Warner Bros. Discovery has been wary of having different versions of the same characters running around at the same time. But honestly, I think a few meetings could fix all of that. This could actually be a really positive thing for the future of filmmaking, and everyone seems worried about that right now.
