Despite being a potential contender for Game of the Year in 2025 on PC and Switch, it doesn’t look like The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy will be released on the PlayStation 5.
Before the game came out, its creator, Kazutaka Kodaka, explained that his team at Too Kyo Games didn’t have the money to release it on many different systems. The studio was facing serious financial difficulties and close to going out of business.
Thankfully, the company successfully navigated that difficult period by releasing a popular and well-received game. However, in an interview with RPG Site, they stated they have no plans to release a version for PlayStation at this time.
This news will likely disappoint many PlayStation 5 owners. The game was published by Aniplex, which is part of the Sony family but runs separately as a label within Sony Music Entertainment.
During the interview, Kodaka detailed the significant involvement of both the Sony team and their partner, XSEED, in the project.
We partnered with Aniplex, sharing the costs of promotion and publishing equally. They took full responsibility for promoting the project and communicating with international partners. We selected them because they really understood our creative vision and were committed to sharing it with a wider audience.
Kodaka suggests that with Aniplex now involved, an anime adaptation is a possibility, as he’s interested in expanding the project into different types of media.
We still believe a PlayStation 5 version of the game will eventually be released, as there’s likely a significant number of PS5 owners who would be interested in buying it.
It’s disappointing to hear that a port to other platforms isn’t planned, even after the game’s strong launch, particularly since a Sony company played a key role in its development and success.
