Noah Hawley & Warner Bros. to Remake Horror Movie Terrified

Warner Bros. is making a new version of the 2017 film Terrified (originally titled Atterados). Emmy-winning director Noah Hawley will be directing and producing the remake through his production company, 26 Keys.

I’m so excited to hear that Noah Hawley is remaking Terrified! He’s teaming up with the original director, Demián Rugna, which is fantastic news. It’s great to see him continuing to take on ambitious projects after the incredible success of Alien: Earth on Hulu and FX – I was completely hooked! And of course, he’s the creative force behind Fargo, which I adored and rightly won a ton of Emmys over its five seasons. He clearly has a knack for telling compelling stories.

Terrified Is Getting Reimagined by Noah Hawley

The Argentinian horror film Terrified first premiered at Mórbido Fest in Mexico City in 2017. It’s now available to stream on Shudder in the US, Canada, and the UK. The film has received positive reviews, earning an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Director Mike Flanagan was once interested in making an English-language remake, but that project is no longer in development.

Film critic Kimberley Elizabeth praised the movie as delivering “several, fresh, frightening, and jaw-dropping sequences.” She noted the effective scares are reminiscent of those found in James Wan’s horror films, and that the movie offers genuinely terrifying and unique moments, making it more than just a collection of cheap jump scares.

Terrified Is a Highly Unsettling Film

Terrified creates a chilling atmosphere with disturbing visuals, telling the story of a peaceful Buenos Aires neighborhood plagued by frightening supernatural events. Strange occurrences quickly turn dangerous for the residents. As things escalate, a police commissioner joins forces with a retired coroner and two paranormal investigators to uncover the source of the mystery and hopefully end the terror.

The movie features a talented cast including Maximiliano Ghione, Norberto Gonzalo, Elvira Onetto, George L. Lewis, Julieta Vallina, Demián Salomón, Agustín Rittano, Natalia Señorales, Matias Rascovschi, and Lorenzo Langer.

I’m really curious to see what Noah Hawley does with the new Terrified project. He’s a talented guy – Fargo, Legion… he’s proven he can deliver amazing television. This is a bit of a shift for him, though, as he usually focuses on TV. He only directed one feature film before, Lucy in the Sky with Natalie Portman, which didn’t quite land with critics. Still, his success on the small screen gives me hope that he’s in good hands with this new venture.

A release date has not yet been set for the Terrified remake.
