Nolan Gould is embracing modern grooming.
Rico Rodriguez, known for playing Luke Dunphy on the show Modern Family, recently surprised fans with a new, fuller beard. He shared a heartwarming photo with former co-stars Ariel Winter and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Nolan, wearing jeans and a red sweatshirt, looked happy as he put his arm around Jesse. He really stood out with his mustache and full beard. Jesse, in a navy shirt and brown pants, posed between Nolan and the Sophia the First star, who was wearing a polka dot maxi dress.
As Jesse captioned the Jan. 5 Instagram post, “New year, new lunch with the fam.”
Nolan isn’t the only star from Modern Family who’s recently changed up their hairstyle. Rico Rodriguez also debuted a dramatically different look at the season six premiere of Netflix’s Cobra Kai in Los Angeles last February. He traded his typical short haircut for long, curly hair that framed his face.
He didn’t just change his hairstyle at the event; Rico also revealed a full, dark beard and mustache.
Along with a fresh new style, the former child star was accompanied by his sister Raini Rodriguez, 32. He’s grateful to her and the rest of his family for supporting him as he grew up in Hollywood.
In a 2016 interview with ABC News, Rico, then 27, explained that his family and friends provided strong support and helped him stay grounded.
In fact, when he goes back home, he insisted that he doesn’t get any star treatment.
Rico explained that acting lets him become someone else, but at home he’s just himself – the same person who still has everyday responsibilities like chores, taking out the trash, and keeping up with schoolwork. He’s very grateful to his parents for keeping him grounded.
And as for his Modern Family costars, they also treat him like one of their own.
In 2016, Rico told CBS News how grateful they were to be collaborating. He described the cast as wonderful and said everyone genuinely enjoyed working together.

Sarah Hyland, who played Haley Dunphy, finished her storyline with her on-screen boyfriend Dylan (Reid Ewing) and their twins, moving on to a new chapter. Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who played the daughter of Cameron and Mitchell on Modern Family for nine seasons, initially believed her acting career was over. She chose the name partly because it’s shorter, but also to signal a fresh start. She wants to be seen in a new light and build a dedicated space for her music.
Since playing the mature Manny on Modern Family – the son of Sofía Vergara’s Gloria – Rico Rodriguez has been busy with other projects, including an appearance on Disney’s Bunk’d and a voice role in the 2025 animated movie Sneaks. He recently shared a photo from a 2023 cast reunion, joking about when they’ll all get together again, referencing the trend of TV show reunions.
