It seems as though Tencent may have anticipated that it would be sued for its Horizon knock-off, Light of Motiram. Not long after news broke out, Sony announced plans to take legal action against Tencent due to the striking similarities between the two games. In response, the Steam page for Light of Motiram has undergone a significant revamp, featuring completely fresh artwork and game descriptions.
According to The Game Post’s recent updates within the past day, the game’s main art, screenshots, and explanations of its mechanics have all been revised. Additionally, it now has a tentative release schedule for Q4 2027, however, Sony is making efforts to push back this planned launch.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve noticed an exciting change in the key art for the Steam page! Previously, it showcased a girl donning headgear remarkably similar to Aloy. But today, there’s a fresh twist – a robotic owl and what appears to be a canine companion have taken center stage. From The Game Post, here’s a side-by-side comparison of the before and after designs!
Furthermore, the top of the page now features an updated collection of screenshots, including fresh images. While some of these images may still evoke thoughts of the Horizon series, the similarities are subtler in these newly added pictures.
It has been observed that the recent update to the game description now highlights fewer similarities to the Horizon universe in terms of its features and mechanics.
Here’s the original description:
In a world dominated by massive machinery, journey through an expansive wilderness, establish your base, progress technology, raise and train Mechanimals, and confront powerful adversaries. Beginning in a rudimentary era, carve out a novel path of evolution. Rebel against the automation, endure with Mechanimals, and thrive amidst their assistance.
And here’s the new, updated description:
Utilize your surroundings wisely to ensure your survival amidst perilous encounters with powerful adversaries. Each move carries risk, but courage is key. By conquering the hurdles life throws at you in this harsh environment, you can establish your position and thrive.
Sony brought a lawsuit on July 25th, alleging that Tencent’s replication of Horizon is so obvious that it has been labeled as “crazy”, “insane”, and “shameless” by the public. The company based its claim on copyright and trademark violations, with the aim to stop Light of Motiram from ever launching this alleged imitation.
Sony contends that Tencent is misleading customers into believing that Light of Motiram is a new addition to the Horizon series, an action which could lead to significant harm. Consequently, Sony seeks $150,000 in compensation and access to all game-related materials for the purpose of their destruction.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve heard some buzz around the grapevine that Tencent had pitched an idea to Sony, suggesting a collaboration on the Horizon IP. Unfortunately, Sony turned them down. If it had been accepted, Aloy, our favorite protagonist, would have embarked on an adventure in Asia for a mobile game. This game would have offered an expansive open world teeming with animals inspired by rich Asian folklore.
