Okay, so I just finished watching Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, and wow! As a big fan of the first movie, I was expecting the usual amazing illusions from the Horsemen, and it delivered. But the ending really threw me! It turns out the Horsemen weren’t even the masterminds behind the biggest trick this time. A whole new group of magicians actually manipulated them and orchestrated this massive con. It was a total surprise and a really clever twist!

After nearly ten years in development, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t finally arrived in theaters. The original Now You See Me cast delivers fantastic performances with excellent chemistry, and the illusions are visually stunning. However, the ending has some significant issues and will likely leave audiences with unanswered questions.

The main issue with the ending of “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” is the final trick itself. It was performed by the new group of magicians, rather than the original Horsemen. Importantly, the whole scheme was orchestrated and carried out by Charlie (Justice Smith).

Danny arrived expecting to meet with Charlie, Bosco, and June because he believed a mysterious figure known as the Eye had chosen them for a new assignment. But he was mistaken – Charlie had orchestrated the entire meeting himself. He tricked them into gathering the Horsemen, intending to use them for his own scheme. He kept his true intentions hidden until the very end to guarantee their cooperation.

He then established his operation within the Eye mansion in France. He skillfully brought in Thaddeus (Morgan Freeman) to help with the final stages of his plan, which was to expose Veronika Vanderberg. She was continuing her father’s criminal work, using their diamond business to hide money for Nazis and other criminals.

This all culminated in a carefully planned deception: Veronika was led to believe she was retrieving the Heart Diamond, only to find Charlie waiting for her. After getting her to confess, Charlie revealed she had unknowingly admitted to murder and other serious crimes, resulting in her imprisonment.

Okay, so the biggest shock for me was finding out Charlie was actually a Vanderberg! It turns out her mom used to be Veronika’s housekeeper, and Charlie was the product of an affair between her mother and Veronika’s father. Tragically, this led to Charlie’s mother taking her own life. But it gets even darker – Veronika then tampered with the brakes on Charlie’s mother’s car, causing her death. It’s a seriously messed up family history!

Charlie had always imagined this would happen – a car crash that everyone believed was fatal. But he survived, ending up in foster care. He and Veronika had been very close as children, and she’d even taught him how to do magic. So, when she saw him alive during his big reveal, she was stunned and clearly felt bad about it. However, her first reaction was to try and shoot him.

It was a surprising turn of events, because Charlie had carefully planned everything to ruin his half-sister’s life. He’d involved the Horsemen to distract everyone from his own actions. But when she acted genuinely shocked to see him, it created a major inconsistency in the movie’s story.

How Did Veronika Vanderberg Not Recognize Her Own Half-Brother?

Charlie witnessed the initial theft of the Heart Diamond by the Horsemen, and was present throughout the entire event. He also attended the race car promotion where the final deception took place. Interestingly, Veronika didn’t realize Charlie was her half-brother until she saw him in the vault.

Looking back at Veronika’s behavior during all of this, it really boils down to three things that had her completely fixated. First, she was getting threatening calls, which understandably had her on edge. Second, she kept spotting Danny, one of the Horsemen, and was clearly watching his every move. And third, she was obsessively checking on her diamond, making sure it wasn’t tampered with. It’s like those were the only three things on her mind!

Charlie brought in the Horsemen for two main reasons. First, he needed their help with his plan to expose Veronika. But more importantly, they were perfect distractions. Veronika was so busy watching them that she never suspected Charlie – or anyone else – was actually in control.

It was a typical magician’s deception. Charlie distracted Veronika by getting her to focus on something else, while the real trick happened elsewhere. Because of this, she didn’t notice what was right in front of her.

What Happened To Dylan Since Now You See Me 2?

Early in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, the Horsemen made some odd remarks about their breakup. It seems they attempted a scheme in Russia that led to Dylan (Mark Ruffalo) being imprisoned, with no hope of release.

This event impacted everyone involved and moved the story forward. While it appeared to simply remove Mark Ruffalo’s character, the true purpose was likely more complex, as is typical for this series. Things are rarely as straightforward as they seem in this franchise.

After the credits finish, Dylan appears in a video message from the Eye, revealing that the three new characters are now members of the team and that the Eye has future plans for them.

What Is Next For The New Horsemen & The Eye?

The ending of the film suggests that a fourth Now You See Me movie is planned. It looks like Charlie, Bosco, and June will team up with the original Four Horsemen, along with Lizzy Caplan’s character, Lulu. With a group of eight, the next heist could be their most ambitious yet, though the details are still a mystery.

However, the next Now You See Me movie needs to address a few loose ends from the first one. The most significant is the death of Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman) at the mansion, which happened because of Charlie’s actions. Although no one pointed fingers or brought it up afterward, it’s likely to become important in the sequel.

A fourth installment of Now You See Me was announced in early 2025, and Ruben Fleischer is returning to direct. Fans are hoping the original cast will reprise their roles, as they were a highlight of the previous film.
