Throughout the Star Wars saga, in both the movies and TV shows, Obi-Wan’s sarcastic and playful comments often stand out as the most amusing.

Obi-Wan Had No Idea How Wrong He Was In Revenge Of The Sith

As a huge Star Wars fan, I always find the beginning of Revenge of the Sith so ironic. Anakin and Obi-Wan start out thinking they’re rescuing Palpatine, completely unaware that he’s actually the one manipulating everything. It’s crazy how they ‘save’ him from Count Dooku, and then the three of them get stuck inside this energy shield – a real turning point, knowing what we know about Palpatine’s plans!

There’s a memorable scene where Obi-Wan looks confused and says, “Wait a minute. How did this happen? We’re smarter than this.” That line is funny by itself, but Anakin’s quick reply, “Apparently not,” makes it even better. However, that’s not even the most humorous part of the exchange.

Honestly, this scene just cracks me up! Obi-Wan is so confident, telling Anakin they’re too clever to be detected by those ray shields… and the irony is, he’s standing right next to Darth Vader – one of the most powerful Sith Lords in the entire galaxy! It’s a brilliantly funny moment because the audience knows what he doesn’t.

Why Did The Jedi Never Figure Out Palpatine Was A Sith?

That line is funny, especially when you think about it, but it makes you wonder how Obi-Wan and the other Jedi were fooled by Palpatine. They worked with him for over ten years, and he was secretly carrying out his evil plan the whole time.

Masters like Yoda were among the most insightful Jedi ever, so it’s puzzling how they could have worked so closely with Palpatine without realizing his evil intentions.

There are a few reasons why this happened. It’s likely Palpatine used a Force power from Star Wars called Force concealment. This ability would have let him hide his presence within the Force, making it impossible for other Force-sensitive individuals to detect him.

Interestingly, Star Wars books show the Jedi weren’t as innocent as they seemed. The novelization of Revenge of the Sith, written by Matthew Stover, includes several conversations that hint the Jedi were suspicious of Palpatine.

You know, one of the things that always struck me about Mace Windu was how clearly he saw through Palpatine. He told Obi-Wan that Palpatine was just obsessed with power – he couldn’t detect any other real motivations. And it’s chilling, but Mace basically admitted the only reason they weren’t immediately suspicious of the Chancellor was because he already held all the power in the galaxy. It’s a really unsettling thought, how much that fact blinded them.

Although the Jedi didn’t fully suspect Palpatine of being a Sith Lord, they weren’t completely unaware of his true nature and ambitions. They were largely powerless to stop him, as Palpatine had meticulously planned his deception.

It’s still funny to think about Obi-Wan Kenobi saying he was too clever to be trapped by a ray shield, especially considering he was standing right next to the person who would eventually destroy the Jedi Order and the Republic.
