The PS5 Pro aims to deliver the ultimate console gaming experience, and it usually succeeds – as long as game developers optimize their games for it.
The launch of The Outer Worlds 2 on PlayStation was unfortunately rough. Players experienced unstable frame rates and issues with the console’s image upscaling feature, known as PSSR.
Obsidian recently released a patch to fix visual issues in the game, specifically blurry grass on Paradise Island and strange lighting effects. They did this by replacing PSSR with TSR.
Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) cleverly uses previous frames to create a sharper picture. Performance Scaling Super Resolution (PSSR) does the same thing, but relies on machine learning to do it.
While PSSR has the potential to perform better, developers are generally more comfortable and experienced using TSR.
Because the system used in the first game struggled with complex scenes, we believe the new technology should handle those situations more effectively.
This update addresses several bugs and gameplay issues. However, it doesn’t include any improvements to how the game runs on PlayStation 5 consoles, which have sometimes had performance inconsistencies.
Here’s the complete list of patch notes. We’ve taken out two details that might spoil things, but you can find those on Obsidian’s website if you’re interested.
