Following the release of “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” director Hideo Kojima has disclosed that his team is currently working on a future project, which goes by the name of “OD” and falls under the horror genre. In an interview with Ssense, Kojima shared insights about this upcoming game, expressing more intrigue about how people will perceive it years after its release, rather than focusing on its initial reception.
Kojima hasn’t shared much about the specifics of OD, but he’s labeled it as something completely new. Moreover, he anticipates that this game will spark strong opinions, with people either loving it or disliking it intensely.
Kojima expressed his eagerness to witness the conversations that OD will provoke. He mentioned that he’ll be checking out social media posts, YouTube videos, and reviews once the game is released. However, the initial response of the title at launch isn’t something he’s particularly focused on. Instead, what truly piques his interest is how people will perceive and feel about the horror game a decade or two down the line.
“The real evaluations come after—10 or 20 years from now,” he said.
Back in December 2023, a new horror game called “OD” was announced as an exclusive for the Xbox platform. This game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and MetaHuman technology, and it will also leverage cloud technology thanks to Microsoft’s infrastructure. At this time, no other details about “OD” have been disclosed.
