I expected this, but it’s still frustrating. As predicted, some people have already gotten their hands on the Xbox Ally X solely to resell it at a higher price, taking advantage of the excitement surrounding its release.
Tom’s Hardware recently pointed out a significant issue: people are already reselling this product on eBay for incredibly high prices, up to $2,500. That’s over twice the original price, despite the fact that no one has actually received the item yet.
The most frustrating thing is that people buying these aren’t actually getting an Xbox Ally X. They’re purchasing someone else’s pre-order, hoping that person will eventually deliver it. Or, they risk being scammed out of around two thousand dollars.

The message is simple. Do not buy an Xbox Ally X from a reseller.
Actually, the consoles aren’t even sold out. If you’re in the US, you can currently pre-order one from Best Buy for the standard price of $999.99. While that’s still expensive, it’s much cheaper than the $2,000+ some are paying, and you can be sure you’ll receive it.
I’m really tired of the current trend of buying things just to resell them. As a sports card collector, I’ve seen this happen a lot. New card sets sell out immediately, then quickly show up on sites like eBay and WhatNot being sold by people who buy in bulk to resell, rather than by actual collectors.
While any popular product can experience artificial scarcity, the current situation surrounding the Xbox Ally X is especially strange. There’s no real indication of a supply shortage – handheld gaming PCs are still a relatively new and developing market, even with the backing of the Xbox brand.
The Nintendo Switch 2 this is not.
If the device is currently out of stock, it should be available again soon. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 offers comparable features, and the immersive Xbox experience is also planned for other handheld devices – or can even be added yourself with some technical know-how.
The handheld gaming PC market is really taking off right now, and Xbox is contributing to its growing popularity. There are now many handheld PCs available to suit different price ranges, and the Steam Deck remains a fantastic, budget-friendly choice.
Don’t pay someone for something before they actually have it – that’s just asking for trouble.
