Sony has announced it will release a 400-page art book celebrating 30 years of PlayStation. The book will showcase the history of the brand as part of its anniversary celebration.
The book is scheduled to be released in Spring 2026 and you can pre-order it now from Read_Only Memory. It costs £95, or you can choose the “The First 30 Years” Deluxe Edition for £245, though only 1994 copies of that version are available.
Here’s how Sony pitches the purchase on the PlayStation Blog:
Gamers will be able to see early versions, concept art, and design models that influenced how Sony Interactive Entertainment created its hardware. From bold initial ideas to the famous consoles and controllers that have become a part of gaming for so many, PlayStation: The First 30 Years is a 400-page visual exploration of PlayStation’s past, offering fans a unique look at how the brand has changed over time.
As a gamer, I’m super excited about this book! It’s basically a huge look back at the history of PlayStation, and it’s packed with visuals. They’re showing off stuff I’ve *never* seen before – things like early console and controller designs, and even mockups that never made it out of the studio. It covers everything from the very first ideas to the polished look of the PlayStation all the way up to the PlayStation 5. It’s a real deep dive into the design process, showing how the consoles evolved. You’ll see experimental stuff and the final products. I can’t wait to check out these never-before-seen design studies!
You’ll get valuable perspectives from PlayStation pioneers Ken Kutaragi, Teiyu Goto, and Yujin Morisawa. They’ll discuss the creative and technical decisions behind some of gaming’s most famous hardware. This offers insights into how these legendary systems came to be.
In addition to the art book, Sony is partnering with Reebok to create special edition sneakers. “The PlayStation x Reebok collection includes three different shoes, each representing one of the original launch areas for PlayStation: the InstaPump Fury 94 for Japan, the Pump Omni Zone II for the U.S., and the Workout Plus for the United Kingdom.” These limited-edition shoes will be released starting next month. Fans are excited about this collaboration.
