Sony has announced that its upcoming PS5 and PC fighting stick, initially unveiled last month, will be known as the FlexStrike Wireless Fight Stick. This device is set to release next year, and additional details about its features can be found in the trailer above, along with fresh Marvel Tokon footage.
The news arrives as the EVO fighting tournament is about to start; there, viewers can see a non-functional version of the fighting stick, accompanied by its carrying case, which comes with the purchase of the device. However, the cost remains undisclosed at this time.
On the PlayStation Blog, you’ll find details about the features of the fighting stick. Sony is leveraging its PlayStation Link technology to enable wireless play for up to two FlexStrike pads, which only need one adaptor to function. Additionally, you can connect a Pulse Elite wireless headset or the Pulse Explore wireless earbuds using the Link adapter for an “ultra-low latency audio and voice chat experience during intense battles.” You also have the option to play with a wired connection.
Essentially, the FlexStrike has been designed to mimic all the controls of a typical PS5 DualSense controller, including the Touchpad. You have the ability to customise your inputs using lock buttons and lever mode switches. Additionally, if you prefer, you can connect a standard PS5 pad to the FlexStrike for menu navigation purposes.
Given the company’s increased focus on the fighting game genre, as demonstrated by its involvement with EVO and partnership with Arc System Works for Marvel Tokon, it is likely that the FlexStrike fighting stick will be heavily promoted alongside these games and any other fighting titles developed by Sony in the future.
