A classic game originally released for the original Xbox – and only ever available on PC – recently received an update after 21 years. This update isn’t for the original console version, but for the one available on Steam. The update adds a completely new feature to the game, which first came out in 2005.
Croteam and Devolver Digital have released a new update for Serious Sam 2. Following their addition of Steam Deck Verification last year, this update brings Steam Achievements to the game. Currently, there are no Xbox achievements, and it’s unlikely there will be. Since the game isn’t backward compatible and can’t be played on Xbox One or Series X|S, Xbox players can only access it on PC.
30 Steam Achievements
Serious Sam 2 now has 30 Steam Achievements for players to unlock. The latest update also includes a new Auto Aim option for controllers, improved fonts, and support for missing Croatian characters.
Serious Sam 2, released in 2005 by Croteam, was the third main installment in the Serious Sam series, following the original and its sequel released in 2001 and 2002. It was also one of the first games published by 2K Games. The game was initially available on Xbox and PC, and those remain the only platforms it’s been released on. A version for the Xbox 360 was planned, but ultimately canceled.
When it was first released, the Xbox version of the game received a score of 72 on Metacritic, and the PC version got a 74. While these scores aren’t amazing, Serious Sam has never been a favorite with critics. It’s always been more popular as a beloved game among a dedicated fanbase.
