Clovers, the developer working on the sequel to Okami (often called Okami 2 by fans), recently shared an update on its progress, targeting a 2026 release. Capcom unexpectedly announced they were moving forward with a follow-up to the popular 2006 action-adventure game Okami at the end of 2024. While fans celebrated the news, both Capcom and Clovers emphasized that development was in its early stages, meaning significant details wouldn’t be available for some time. Now, those eager for news about Okami 2 have received a new status report.
Clovers studio head Kento Koyama recently shared an update on the company’s progress through a post on their official website. He explained that the past year has been focused on building the team that will develop Okami 2. While the game is still a ways off from release, Koyama assured fans that the team at Clovers will be dedicated to its development throughout 2026.
Koyama announced that the team is actively developing a sequel to Okami. While the game isnāt available yet, theyāre excited to share it with players and are committed to working hard throughout the year to create an experience that exceeds global expectations.
When Will Okami 2 Release?
Capcom and Clover Studio haven’t revealed much about Okami 2 or when it might be released. It’s currently unclear if the game will even come out on current consoles, as the platforms it will be available on haven’t been announced. If Okami 2 ends up being developed for the next generation of consoles like the PS6 or the next Xbox, a release wouldn’t happen until 2028 or 2029 at the very soonest.
The sequel to Okami is currently in development under the direction of Hideki Kamiya, who also directed the first game. Kamiya recently left Platinum Games to start a new studio called Clovers, where he’s leading the creation of Okami 2. While heās mentioned Clovers might work on other games in the future, they are focusing solely on the Okami sequel for now.
