Olivia Munn Says Male Costar Wouldn’t Film Scene Being Saved by Woman

Olivia Munn is looking back at a frustrating moment.

The former star of Newsroom shared a story about a time on set when a male colleague stopped filming because her character ended up saving his.

Olivia recently shared on The Drew Barrymore Show that she’s often played roles like a CIA agent or police officer, and in some scenes, her character ends up rescuing another character.

The 45-year-old actor described a memorable scene filmed in a bunker, but didn’t reveal which movie or who else was involved.

She explained that the scene involved them each protecting their own side, then switching positions. A man was approaching from behind, intending to shoot the other actor, so her character shot the attacker first.

I was on set, and it was fascinating to watch this actor have a real moment. We were about to film a scene, and it became clear he hadn’t fully absorbed the script. Right then and there, it hit him – his character was on his own. He actually said, ‘Wait, wait, wait… she can’t save me!’ It was a powerful realization for him, and you could see it change his performance immediately.

Olivia admitted that she was taken aback by her costar’s demeanor with the director and crew.

She explained that it felt like everything around her was blocking her out. She wasn’t worried about seeming unpleasant or about people reacting negatively, thinking she couldn’t help them or that they didn’t want her help.

After about 45 minutes of trying to negotiate, I suggested we change things up. Instead of my character rescuing his, I proposed he rescue mine, because it felt like the right time for a switch. He agreed.

Despite calming down her male co-star, the actress from Your Friends & Neighbors later admitted the agreement wasn’t as genuine as it appeared.

She pointed out that surprisingly, everything remained the same. It turned out she hadn’t changed her approach at all – she was still doing exactly what she’d been doing all along, and it was simply his perception that something was different.

Kim thought for a moment and then said, ‘Honestly, I’d probably eat something awful if someone promised it would make me look younger – even if it meant eating a bowl of poop every day.’

“I pooped myself one time,” he admitted. “I did, I’m sorry.”

To be honest, Jelly Roll (whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord) didn’t intend to cause such serious harm.

He firmly believed it was just a misunderstanding. “I sincerely apologize,” he said. “I saw the audience turn from supportive to completely against me.”
