The sports community is mourning a tragic loss.
The Norwegian skier Audun Groenvold, who won a bronze medal in men’s ski cross during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, tragically passed away on July 15 following a lightning strike. He was 49 years old.
With deep regret, we learned that Audun Groenvold has tragically passed away due to being struck by lightning while on a cabin outing,” the federation stated on July 16, in English translation from Norwegian.
The organization stated that Groenvold was rushed to the hospital following a lightning strike, where he received treatment for his injuries. Regrettably, he didn’t make it through this incident.
Groenvold kicked off his sports journey as a part of Norway’s national alpine ski team from the 1993-1994 season all the way to 2003-2004, securing a third place finish at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup finals held in Spain during 1999.
After that, he moved into freestyle skiing and ski cross, which eventually earned him a bronze medal in ski cross at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in 2005. Two years later, he also won the Ski Cross World Cup. Following his performance at the 2010 Olympics, Groenvold took on roles as a national team coach, TV commentator, and member of the Norwegian Ski Association’s board.
Following the sad demise of Groenvold, the president of the Norwegian Ski Federation, Tove Moe Dyrhaug, paid tribute to him by saying he was a highly influential individual who had made such a significant impact on both the alpine skiing and freestyle sports communities.
In the statement, it was mentioned that Audun excelled in both alpine skiing and ski cross prior to taking up the role of the national ski cross coach. Dyrhaug made these remarks in a release, which has been translated from Norwegian. He further expressed that the late athlete’s demise has left a significant emptiness behind.
Groenvold is survived by his wife, Kristin Tandberg Haugsjå, along with their three children.

Jamie Lynn Spears’ young daughter Maddie Aldridge was operating an all-terrain vehicle in Louisiana during February 2017. Unfortunately, she overturned the ATV and fell into a nearby pond. This left her underwater for several minutes.
On that fateful day, as I finally managed to pull her from the water’s grasp and beheld her, I feared the worst. In the hands of first responders, she was taken away from me, and in that moment, it felt like we were saying goodbye to our precious daughter forever, on a 2020 episode of Maria Menounos’ Better Together podcast. The devastating thought consumed me – we believed we had lost her.
Two days later, Maddie showed signs of being conscious and conversant, despite the family’s uncertainty about the extent of the damage. A couple of weeks on, she resumed her usual daily activities as if nothing had happened.
Jamie Lynn expressed gratitude, saying, “God returned my daughter to me, a precious gift. Before, I’d lost her, but now she’s with me again.
The filming for the 2025 action comedy “Bride Hard,” starring Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp, took an unexpected turn on the final day of Rebel’s scenes as a secret agent. In a fight scene, a gun accidentally struck her face, causing her nose to bleed. She described this incident in an interview with Access Hollywood in June 2025, saying, “It was just a weird fluke, and it happened on my last night of shooting. I couldn’t believe it!
In the midst of a pool of her own blood, she acknowledged being extremely frightened during the 2023 incident. “They had to call an ambulance and summon a plastic surgeon,” she explained, “otherwise, I would have been left permanently disfigured. Fortunately, we managed to get a plastic surgeon who performed all the necessary stitches. Now, you can’t tell there was any injury at all.
As an utterly devoted fan, I can’t help but share the nail-biting incident that nearly sent shivers down Jimmy Fallon’s spine! It was during a routine night at home when an unexpected trip left him tumbling. In a desperate attempt to break his fall, he reached for the counter, only for his ring to get snagged in the process, yanking his finger painfully away. Quite the adrenaline-pumping moment, don’t you think?
He referred to it as “forcible removal of a ring,” and this incident required him to stay at the hospital for ten consecutive days while doctors made every effort to avoid a possible amputation.
As a multisport enthusiast specializing in long-distance events like hiking, running, swimming, and triathlons, I, Zane Wach, narrowly escaped the clutches of altitude sickness while trekking alongside my father Ryan Wach on the majestic Mount Whitney in June 2025.
Ryan clarified to SFGATE that the 14-year-old began perceiving illusions, specifically imagining figures such as snowmen and Kermit the Frog.
Ryan repeatedly prevented his teenager from straying off dangerous cliff edges while they descended the trail, as the father explained. “He seemed disoriented, and I’m unsure of what may have caused it. To this day, we’re still uncertain,” he added. “My hypothesis is a mix of fatigue, lack of sleep, possibly dehydration, and lingering effects from altitude sickness. Essentially, he began to question the nature of reality.
On the third try, Ryan found himself too distant to save Zane as his son tumbled about 120 feet from a cliff edge. After enduring a six-hour wait for an Inyo County Search & Rescue helicopter to arrive and transport Zane to Southern Inyo Hospital in Lone Pine, he received initial care and was subsequently transferred to a pediatric trauma center in Las Vegas. Induced into a medically controlled coma, he eventually resumed independent breathing.
Ryan mentioned that their situation with his injured teenager, who has experienced head trauma, a broken finger, ankle, and fractured pelvis, will likely become a survival story in the end. However, he emphasized that they are currently still in the thick of it all.
On January 1, 2023, Jeremy Renner, who played a role in the Avengers, found himself using a snowplow to free a truck that had gotten stuck in the snow at his Lake Tahoe residence. However, upon exiting the vehicle, he was accidentally dragged under as he attempted to prevent the snowplow from hitting his nephew. As a result, Renner sustained an impressive 38 broken bones.
In his 2025 memoir titled “My Next Breath,” he recounted how, as he lay frozen on the ice, his heart rate decreased and it was on New Year’s Day that he grew weary. Unbeknownst to his daughter, sisters, friends, father, and mother, this is when he took his last breath. After approximately thirty minutes of manually breathing for such an extended period, similar to doing numerous push-ups per minute for half an hour… it was then that I passed away.
Struggling against fractured bones, excessive blood loss, and imminent hypothermia, he penned, “I believe I’ve passed away—in fact, I’m certain of it.” Upon the arrival of emergency medical responders, they observed that his heart rate had plummeted to 18 beats per minute, a rate at which you are practically deceased.
In May 2025, Emilie Kiser and her husband Brady Kiser were confronted with a heart-wrenching situation when their 3-year-old son Trigg Kiser accidentally fell into their swimming pool at their residence in Arizona.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m sharing a heartbreaking incident that occurred on May 12th. The Chandler Police Department reached out to USA Today, revealing they responded to an unfortunate event at a residence involving a child who had been pulled unresponsive from a backyard pool. On the spot, police and firefighters performed CPR efforts before transporting the toddler to Chandler Regional Hospital. Despite these valiant attempts, the little one succumbed to their injuries six days later. This serves as a grim reminder of the importance of pool safety and constant supervision around water bodies, particularly when young children are present.
As an ardent admirer, I find myself compelled to share Emilie’s recent legal endeavor. She has courageously taken steps to prevent the disclosure of details regarding the tragic demise she experienced. The primary reason behind this action, as stated in the lawsuit, is her unwavering dedication to support her surviving child, a two-month-old named Theodore. Each day, Emilie battles tirelessly to be there for him amidst the challenges that life presents.
A trip to Thailand for Dr. Cara Hodgson and her family turned into the most devastating 10 days of her life when she was electrocuted by power lines in December 2023. After losing consciousness and being rushed to the emergency room, the influencer spent the following week and a half moving between hospitals, battling to regain her strength and struggling for survival, as she described in a New Year’s Day Instagram post. “I am incredibly fortunate to be alive today.
Through the discomfort, the orthodontist discovered a fresh cause for joy. Sharing her insights, Cara expressed, “We often forget in our daily preoccupations, but life itself – the ability to breathe, eat, speak, and move – is an extraordinary gift that deserves celebration.
Sadly, a tragic incident took place when Juliana Marins, a tourist from Brazil, was trekking Mount Rinjani, an active volcano situated in Indonesia, during June 2025. After she slipped and fell off a cliff (not into the volcano’s crater), a group of 48 search and rescue personnel faced difficulties due to unfavorable weather, challenging terrain, and poor visibility conditions in the area, as stated by the Brazilian government. Over the course of four days, they eventually found Juliana’s body.
Today, the rescue team successfully made it to where Juliana Marins was located, according to a post on an Instagram account giving updates from her family. Unfortunately, we must share the heartbreaking news that she did not make it. We are incredibly thankful for all the prayers, expressions of love, and support that have been sent our way.
At a 2015 Easter brunch held at Benihana, the Japanese restaurant, Tori Spelling – once a star on “Beverly Hills, 90210” – had an accident. She tripped and ended up burning her right arm on one of the grills. To treat this injury, she underwent skin grafts. Eventually, she chose to file a lawsuit against the restaurant.
She revealed in an episode of her podcast 9021OMG with Jennie Garth in 2024 that they had to perform a skin graft on her, using skin from her leg. This means she now has a portion of her thigh on her arm. In all seriousness, she’s not joking when she says this, as a layer of her thigh skin is covering her arm due to severe burn damage.
At the Rock&Cars festival in France held in June 2024, comedian Tony Knight tragically lost his life when two massive tree branches came crashing down. As shared on a GoFundMe post by Joanne Allen, Tony’s sister-in-law and longtime partner Hayley Wright’s sibling, “Tony was just 54 years old, reveling in the moment.” She continued, describing him as vibrant, healthy, joyful, and full of potential. He was known for his charm, wit, and dedication.
Indeed, his longtime love held him in high esteem. Haley penned on her Instagram post that he was a versatile and gifted individual, full of numerous skills. He truly had no limitations, as he could accomplish anything. He was cherished by many as a wonderful friend, an exceptional dog father…but above all, he was the center of her world, and it will never be the same without him.
In January 2024, a tragic incident occurred during a celebration for Vistex, a software company based in Chicago. To commence their planned 25th anniversary festivities, CEO Sanjay Shah and President Vishwanath Raju Datla were supposed to descend from an iron cage onto a platform at the India-based party. However, two wires broke, causing them to fall onto the concrete stage instead. This information was reported by The Times of India.
According to the newspaper report, Sanjay, aged 56, succumbed to his wounds in the hospital after the accident, whereas Vishwanath, who was 52 years old, suffered a critical head injury and eventually passed away several months later.
In a 2022 Instagram video alongside UNICEF, Orlando Bloom recounted an incident from when he was 19. He and some friends had attempted to reach the rooftop terrace of a three-story building using a drainpipe, which unfortunately gave way. As a result, he plunged three floors down through a window. Despite suffering multiple broken vertebrae in his back, he managed to survive due to the fact that his spinal cord remained undamaged.
Initially, during my hospital stay, I was informed for four consecutive days that I might not walk again. This marked the start of a lengthy and challenging process for me as I began to identify and grasp patterns in my life that had led to multiple accidents. The climax of this ordeal was when I fractured my spine, an incident that was close to being fatal.
After leaving the hospital confined in a back brace, enduring both physical and emotional discomfort, he immediately threw himself into partying, as he recounted to GQ in 2005. “It took me a couple of months to understand that this was my life,” he admitted, “and I didn’t want to squander it.
He stated that the experience has significantly impacted every aspect of his life, explaining further that one doesn’t truly understand its value until it seems at risk. Earlier, he admitted to treating motorbikes and cars as if they were on a racetrack, an action he now realizes was reckless. It wasn’t about trying to appear trendy; rather, it was simply his preference for living dangerously. However, he has since adopted a more relaxed approach to life.
