The highly-acclaimed and widely-loved action movie from 2024 is still available for streaming on Netflix, but that’s going to end on July 16. In essence, Netflix subscribers only have about three days left to watch this movie. Once it leaves Netflix, the only ways to see it will be by renting it or subscribing to HBO Max, where it will become an exclusive streaming title. It’s likely that it will return to Netflix at some point in the future, but there’s no news about that yet.
The film to be released in 2024 is titled “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” a sequel and prequel spin-off of the 2015 blockbuster and critically-adored Mad Max: Fury Road. This movie also marks the fifth installment in the Mad Max series, with a unique twist – Max Rockatansky, the franchise’s main character, is not the protagonist this time around. Instead, the lead role is given to Furiosa, a secondary character in previous films, and the narrative focuses on her backstory.
Regrettably, for Warner Bros. Pictures and series director George Miller, their latest production, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, did not achieve the same level of success as its precursor, Mad Max: Fury Road. While Fury Road grossed an impressive $380.5 million at the box office on a budget half of this figure, Furiosa only managed to bring in $174.3 million, a substantial sum but significantly less than the $168 million spent on its production, indicating a less profitable outcome.
Meanwhile, while Mad Max: Fury Road triumphed at award ceremonies and earned a high rating of 97 out of 100 on Rotten Tomatoes, the spin-off, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, did not fare as well in the awards circuit. Nevertheless, it managed to secure positive reviews, with scores of 90 out of 100 on Rotten Tomatoes as well.
Despite underperforming at the box office and not surpassing its predecessor, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” still stood out as one of the exceptional films of 2024. Though it might not have been superior to its prequel, it excelled above most movies released in that year. Consequently, it ranked among the highest-rated movies of 2024.
If you’re considering watching the Netflix series, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” make sure to set aside about 2 hours and 28 minutes as it runs for 148 minutes. Additionally, be aware that this production carries an R rating due to its graphic depictions of intense violence and disturbing visuals.
