A highly anticipated PC game launching in 2025 isn’t currently compatible with the Steam Deck. It’s not unusual for big PC games to release without Steam Deck verification, and usually they receive updates to add support. However, this developer hasn’t ever fully supported the Steam Deck in their previous games, so it’s unlikely this new release will either.
This month saw the release of Europa Universalis V, a major PC game and a highly anticipated title for strategy enthusiasts. It’s been 12 years since the last installment, Europa Universalis IV, came out in 2012, so fans have been eager for this new version. Grand strategy games aren’t typically well-suited for the Steam Deck, so it’s not a shock that Europa Universalis V isn’t officially ‘Steam Deck Verified’ right away. However, it is playable on the Deck, which is an improvement over the previous game, which doesn’t work with the device at all.
About the Game
Europa Universalis V is a grand strategy game developed by Paradox Interactive, a leading company in the genre. They’ve recently released other popular titles like Crusader Kings III (one of the best strategy games of the 2020s) and Victoria III.
Currently, the new PC game is receiving very positive feedback. It has an 82% approval rating on Steam and is rated “Very Positive,” which is the second-highest rating possible on that platform. It also has a score of 85 on Metacritic.
The PC game is available for $59.99, whether you’re playing on the Steam Deck or a different computer. It’s a game you can easily spend hundreds of hours enjoying.
Although a popular new PC game isn’t currently confirmed to work well on the Steam Deck, Valve recently cheered up Deck owners by adding a highly requested feature.
