In 2025, a couple of games unexpectedly became huge hits, which is impressive given how competitive the gaming industry is. What made them special was their ability to appeal to both seasoned gamers and newcomers. Now, one of those popular games is getting a new edition set in the DC universe, and it’s already generating a lot of excitement for 2026.
Last year, games like Magical Athlete and Hot Streak became incredibly popular because they were easy to learn and led to funny, unpredictable moments. Now, DC fans can experience similar fun with DC Breakout: Arkham Asylum. This new game from WizKids puts players in a frantic race to escape Arkham Asylum, using powers that change things up constantly. With 40 different villains to choose from, the gameplay quickly becomes chaotic and exciting.
DC Breakout: Arkham Asylum Features A Massive Roster of Playable Batman Villains

One of the best parts of games like this is discovering how different character abilities work together in unexpected ways, and DC Breakout: Arkham Asylum really embraces that idea. You can choose from 40 different villains, and you’ll team up two of them to escape Arkham Asylum before your rivals do.

While we don’t know all the villains in the game yet, we’ve seen from previews and interviews that it includes many of Batman’s classic foes. Expect to face off against The Joker, Penguin, Two-Face, Scarecrow, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, Riddler, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Bane. Beyond those familiar faces, the game also features some less common villains like Calendar Man and the always-fun Condiment King. Plus, there are a few surprises still to be revealed!
Combining characters creates interesting gameplay because their powers interact. Take The Riddler, for example – he secretly rolls dice and can claim any result he wants. If challenged and found to be lying, he doesn’t move, but if truthful, he gets bonus moves. Partnering Riddler with Killer Croc adds another layer of strategy: whenever Croc rolls an even number, it automatically becomes a 6.

Scarecrow offers a unique ability: he can use a token at the end of his turn to spin the tile he’s standing on 180 degrees, rotating any pawns with it. The Joker uses tokens differently – he gets one at the start of his turn and can spend it to force another player to roll the die again.

Harley’s special ability lets you move past opponents, and with her other skills, you can create powerful combinations. Plus, you can add even more strategy with the gadget cards you collect.
DC Breakout: Arkham Asylum is up for pre-order now and is expected to release in Quarter 2 of 2026.
