A major game coming in 2026 will have a special feature only available on Xbox Series X. While the game—an open-world RPG—is likely to be more popular overall on PlayStation 5 due to its larger user base, Xbox players will be able to use the Play Anywhere feature from day one. This is significant because most Xbox games don’t support Play Anywhere at launch.
Pearl Abyss’s upcoming game, Crimson Desert, launches on Xbox Series X and other platforms on March 19th. A great feature for players who enjoy gaming on both Xbox and PC is Xbox Play Anywhere – you only need to buy the game once to play it on both, and your save progress will carry over. If you only play on one platform, this isn’t a big deal, but for those who play on both, it saves you from having to buy a second copy (around $70) and lets you have different save files for each.
2026’s Most Anticipated RPG
Crimson Desert is shaping up to be a massive release and a standout RPG for this generation of gaming. Players can expect a huge amount of content – potentially hundreds of hours – for those who love to fully explore and replay games. Given how much time people are likely to invest in it, the fact that it supports Xbox Play Anywhere – allowing progress to carry across devices – is a particularly great feature.
After hearing this announcement, many players said they’ll now buy the game through the Microsoft Store.
One Reddit user shared that Xbox Play Anywhere is the most important factor when choosing where to buy games, considering options like Steam, GOG, Epic, the Microsoft Store, and Nintendo. Another user agreed, saying they’re more likely to buy games through the Xbox store because of the Play Anywhere feature.
Currently, the PlayStation 5 doesn’t allow you to do this, and with PlayStation seemingly reducing its focus on PC gaming, it’s unlikely to change in the future. PlayStation prefers players experience their games exclusively on the PS5 console.
