2025 was a fantastic year for horror fans, with critically acclaimed films like Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and Zack Cregger’s Weapons, alongside popular hits such as 28 Years Later and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. 2026 is already shaping up to be another strong year for the genre. We can look forward to a new installment in the 28 Years Later series with The Bone Temple, as well as fresh films in the Evil Dead, Scream, and Terrifier franchises.
Searchlight Pictures has shifted the release date of its upcoming horror sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, forward by two weeks. As reported by Deadline, the film – directed by Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpijn and Tyler Gillett) and starring Samara Weaving – will now hit theaters on March 27th instead of April 10th. The story follows a bride who discovers her wealthy husband’s family plans to sacrifice her on their wedding night as part of a pact with the devil.
Following the success of their 2019 horror film Ready or Not, the directing duo Radio Silence quickly became in-demand in Hollywood, going on to helm two Scream movies and the horror film Abigail. Now, they’re returning to Ready or Not for a sequel, which they promise will be fantastic. This time, the danger is even greater, as Grace (Samara Weaving) must fight to save her sister Faith (Kathryn Newton, who also starred in Abigail), with multiple families determined to stop her.
The supporting cast is fantastic, featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar (known from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Kevin Durand (The Strain), Shawn Hatosy (Animal Kingdom), and even celebrated sci-fi director David Cronenberg. The new trailer suggests this film is much larger in scope than the original, and includes a memorable scene where Gellar’s character stakes Grace, reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
2026 Looks to Match up to 2025 for Horror Releases
The horror sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, is just the beginning of a wave of thrilling releases planned for 2026. Samara Weaving returns as Grace, and the story reveals that by eliminating the family who hunted her, she created a power struggle. Now, multiple influential families are competing to become the new leaders, with the ultimate goal of killing Grace to claim control of a global council. But, just like in the first film, Grace won’t be an easy target.
Moviegoers can look forward to several exciting releases in the new year. January brings the chilling film Primate, the sequel The Bone Temple to 28 Years Later, and a new Silent Hill movie directed by the original filmmaker, Christoph Gans. Sam Raimi is back with a horror thriller, Send Help, starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien. February will see the release of Scream 7, and in March, Maggie Gyllenhaal directs The Bride, a fresh take on the classic Bride of Frankenstein story.
Horror fans have a lot to look forward to this year! Ridley Scott is releasing a new horror film in March, and Blumhouse is trying again with The Mummy in April. July brings the next installment in the Evil Dead series, followed by a new Insidious movie in August. September will see both a DC horror film, Clayface, and a new Resident Evil movie directed by Zack Cregger. To cap off the year, Robert Eggers’ Werwulf is scheduled for release on Christmas Day.
