In 2026, fans are eagerly awaiting a sequel to the popular horror-comedy Ready or Not. Titled Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, the film brings back the original director duo, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, along with star Samara Weaving. The story continues immediately after the first movie, where Weaving’s character, Grace, barely survived a dangerous game of hide-and-seek with her husband’s family. However, her victory has led to an even bigger threat: a deadly game involving multiple wealthy families, and now her sister’s life is at risk too.
The upcoming film, Here I Come, appears to be a significant follow-up to the first movie. Big names like Elijah Wood, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and David Cronenberg will be chasing the main character, played by Weaving, and the studio is optimistic about its potential. Searchlight recently moved the release date forward to March 27th, indicating they believe it will perform well alongside other major films released before Easter.
Honestly, I was excited for Ready or Not 2, but now I’m a little worried. They’ve moved the release date so it’s opening on the same day as another horror movie, They Will Kill You, and that just seems like a bad call. It could really hurt both films!
They Will Kill You Is Competition That Ready Or Not 2 Doesn’t Need
I just saw the trailer for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, and it looks like exactly the kind of movie you’d hope for from the team behind the first one. Directors Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett clearly know how to blend scares with genuine humor and build characters you actually care about, and they seem to have a really interesting direction for Grace’s story. Plus, adding actors like Wood, Gellar, and Kathryn Newton – all of whom are fantastic at hitting that specific sweet spot of creepy and funny – gives this sequel a lot of potential. Honestly, it looks like a blast and a must-see this spring!
The trailer for “They Will Kill You” came out on January 5th, and it’s clear that this movie and “Dark Matter” will be more than just competing for box office success. Both films share similar themes: “They Will Kill You” features Zazie Beetz as a new housekeeper in a historic Manhattan building, who discovers the wealthy residents are Satanists planning to sacrifice her. However, she’s more than capable of defending herself. Essentially, both are horror films of the same type, which means they’ll likely be competing for the same audience.
I just saw the trailer for They Will Kill You, and honestly, it’s grabbing my attention more than Ready or Not 2 right now. Both movies seem to be aiming for that blend of horror and humor, but this one feels… wilder. The trailer is visually striking – really colorful and stylized, but also incredibly violent. Patricia Arquette is sporting a strange accent, and Marion Beetz is completely owning the action heroine role. There’s a moment where she punches a kid, and, yeah, it’s brutal, but also kind of awesome. It definitely left an impression!
Currently, the sequel is more well-known, and it has a lot of other strengths too. However, much like the antagonists in these movies, Ready or Not 2 may have misjudged its competition. As a horror fan, I’d personally choose a fresh, innovative take on a familiar concept over simply continuing an existing story – especially one that seems to be pushing boundaries. If enough viewers feel the same way, Searchlight Pictures might regret releasing their film so close to this new one.
