Anime is famous for its epic battles and fantastical stories, but it’s also become a popular source for romantic comedies. Films like Your Name, Weathering With You, A Silent Voice, and Summer Wars have paved the way for romance in anime, and shows like My Dress-Up Darling, Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War, and Rent-A-Girlfriend are continuing that trend on television. However, one of the most influential anime series in this genre is temporarily pausing its manga due to a reasonable personal matter.
The manga and anime series, The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You, has become popular since its debut in 2019. After a successful run as a manga, it was adapted into a two-season anime, and a third season is on the way. While the story of Rentaro Aijo and his many admirers continues in new manga chapters, artist Yukiko Nozawa is taking a break due to her pregnancy and upcoming maternity leave.
100 Girlfriends And Their Future

I was so worried when The 100 Girlfriends went on break last year! It turns out our amazing artist, Nozawa, was hospitalized and discovered she was pregnant – which is wonderful news, of course! We’ve been used to new chapters every week, but things will be a little different now while she focuses on being a mom. The good news is, both she and the writer, Rikito Nakamura, are committed to continuing the series, and they’re hoping to get back to that weekly schedule eventually. Nozawa herself has promised fans she’ll be back to work on The 100 Girlfriends when she’s ready, and that makes me so happy!
If you haven’t seen it yet, both seasons of The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You are now streaming on Crunchyroll. This romantic comedy has a unique premise in the anime world – the main character, Rentaro, finds himself with a hundred girls all vying for his affection. It all starts when Rentaro gets rejected 100 times in middle school and wishes for better luck in high school. His wish is granted, but with a twist! He gets exactly what he asked for, and the series follows him as he tries to navigate the chaotic situation of having so many potential love interests.
The third season of the show is expected to premiere later this year, although an exact date hasn’t been announced. Based on early previews, it looks like Rentaro will once again be juggling the affections of many girls, continuing the trend from previous seasons of The 100 Girlfriends.
