Netflix has become a major home for anime, offering exclusive shows like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run, Delicious in Dungeon, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, alongside popular classics such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. However, a highly-rated anime film currently available on Netflix will be leaving the service soon. If you’re interested in watching a movie from the acclaimed studio Science SARU, it’s best to do so before it’s gone.
The visually stunning animated film Inu-Oh premiered in Japan in 2022 and comes from the acclaimed studio Science SARU, known for shows like Dandadan, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, and Devilman: Crybaby. Unlike many other anime, Inu-Oh tells a unique and original story about a young boy born with physical differences who hides his face with a mask. The film follows his journey as he connects with a musician, and together they share their art with the world, ultimately finding acceptance. Inu-Oh will be leaving Netflix on April 2nd, so don’t miss the chance to watch it if you have a subscription.
Inu-Oh: Why You Should Watch
As of today, Inu-Oh has received very positive reviews, with around 90% approval from both critics and general audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Though it might not be as widely recognized as other Science SARU productions like Dandadan, the film boasts animation quality that’s on par with the studio’s best work. Inu-Oh tells a powerful story about feeling alone, different, and embracing individuality. While it wasn’t a huge box office hit, it’s definitely a film worth watching.
It’s a bit of a shame to see Science SARU lose their film on Netflix, but they have a lot planned for 2026. They’re currently working on a new version of Ghost in the Shell, a hugely popular anime franchise. From what I’ve heard, this adaptation will be much closer to the original source material than any previous anime versions. It’s set to launch in July on Amazon Prime Video, as they’re becoming a bigger player in the anime world. It just goes to show how competitive the streaming services are when it comes to anime these days.
