A great story means little if the gameplay isn’t good, and Metaphor: ReFantazio truly delivers in that area.

As a researcher studying game design, I’d say this game really feels like Atlus took everything they’ve learned from their biggest RPG hits and combined it all into one amazing experience. It’s a fantastic tribute to their past work.

This game combines the difficult, strategic battles of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne – where a single error can be fatal – with the relationship-building and ability-unlocking Social Link system found in the Persona games, allowing you to deepen your connection with characters and become more powerful.

Adding to its unique features, Metaphor: ReFantazio reimagines the ‘Persona’ system from the Persona series. Instead of simply summoning Personas, you equip party members with powerful spirits called Archetypes, similar to the Job system found in Final Fantasy V.
