DreamWorks Animation is known for both its individual, well-loved films and its ability to launch big franchise series. Starting with the huge success of Shrek, the studio has consistently created popular franchises like Madagascar and, more recently, How to Train Your Dragon, which even expanded into a live-action movie in 2025. Now, though, fans have a limited time to stream one of DreamWorks’ most popular franchises, and it’s happening at a particularly inconvenient moment.
Excitement is growing for Shrek 5, which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 30, 2027, after over ten years! However, fans hoping to rewatch the original Shrek movies might have a limited time to do so. Shrek, Shrek 2, and Shrek the Third just became available on Tubi on February 1st, but they’ve already been added to the platform’s “leaving soon” list. While specific dates haven’t been announced, titles usually leave Tubi at the end of the month, so it’s likely the first three Shrek films will be removed on February 28th.
DreamWorks’ Shrek Franchise Is One of the Most Iconic Ever, and for Good Reason
When people think of DreamWorks movies, Shrek is often the first that comes to mind. Released in 2001, this animated film starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz as Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona quickly became a huge part of pop culture and helped establish DreamWorks Animation as a leading studio. It’s easy to see why – the movie had all the ingredients for success. It cleverly turned traditional fairy tales on their head, appealed to audiences of all ages with its humor and slapstick, and featured fantastic animation, a memorable soundtrack, and a truly engaging story. Packed with iconic moments and lovable characters, Shrek was simply a groundbreaking hit.
Everyone agrees that Shrek is a fantastic animated movie, and Shrek 2 was even better, earning a high 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While Shrek the Third wasn’t as good, the main Shrek movies and the Puss in Boots films consistently deliver a great mix of heart and humor that still entertains viewers today. The franchise has remained popular for over 20 years, and fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming fifth Shrek movie.
Where to Stream the Shrek Franchise After It Leaves Tubi?
The first three Shrek movies are being removed from Tubi’s free selection, but you’ll still be able to stream them. They’re all available on Peacock, along with Shrek Forever After, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and many other DreamWorks films and shows. To watch them on Peacock, you’ll need a subscription.
